What are my chances of getting red and whites and calicos with this combination?

I am so excited. I am finally getting my calico this weekend!!

I'm assuming the dad is solid red and not a bi-color.  Is this correct?  A solid bred to a calico will give you 50% solids and 50% bi-color/calico.  Male kittens can be solid red, red bi-color, solid cream, cream bi-color, solid black, black bi-color, solid blue or blue bi-color.  Females can be solid red, red bi-color, solid cream, cream bi-color, tortoiseshell, calico, blue-cream or dilute calico.  Please note you will only get the dilute colors (cream, cream bi-color, blue, blue bi-color, blue-cream & dilute calico) if both parents carry the recessive dilution gene.

Congrats on your new calico!

Tracy,

I know my male throws blues.  Our last litter was blue, blue cream, and the other litter had a blue lynx point, blue and a blue cream.  Same male different female.

The female hasn't produced a litter yet.

Yes, he is solid.

Thanks!

Thanks Cindy... so we know your red boy carries dilute then.  What colors are your calico's parents?  Is either a dilute?  If so, she carries dilute as well and all the colors I previously mentioned will be possible.

Her mother is a calico.  Her father is a brown tabby and white.  I don't see any dilute in her father's side.  Her mother side has several creams and creams and whites.  No blues anywhere.

I have a copy of her pedigree.

OK, so it's not guaranteed that she carries dilute since both parents are dominant colors.  However, since her mom's side of the ped does have dilutes, it's still a possibility.  You could either have her DNA tested to see if she carries dilute or you can just wait to see if she has any dilute colored babies when the time comes to have her first litter.  If there are any blues, creams, blue-creams, etc. you know for sure she carries dilute.  However, you will still have the greatest odds for having reds, red bi-colors, blacks, black bi-colors, torties and calicos since both parents are dominant colors.

Hope this helps!
