I would not have done this had the other thread not been temporarily closed.  However, this will be positive information and it will also be the last time I plan to post within this forum.  So for some breeders, please do breakout the bottle of champagne.  You do have reason to celebrate.

There is accurate and valuable information here at your disposal, however, the erroneous information out weighs accurate.  My passion for this breed is sincere and I have no ulterior motive other than the well being of the breed I love so much. I began my research when my 14 yr old girl was diagnosed with polycystic liver disease.  As we all say we have this same passion, I truly believe that actions speak louder than words. I am married to a politican who I just disagreed with and he just referred to me as "YOU PEOPLE". Needless to say this didn't go over well since I have already been labeled as such here.  How many "YOU PEOPLE" can I possibly be?

I have spent close to 3 years of research dedicated to this breed I love.  I also thank Lindsay for allowing me  to create a no comment forum "Research Library" section since I felt it was very much needed here.  At least there is a section where accurate information could be retrieved without diversion.

Members have PM'd me to get my opinion on certain catteries they were considering which is understandable considering what happened to me.  I even needed to defer a few times and actually get back to them with answers after I spoke to Allie/Josh's specialist.  Imagine this...I don't know it all!

For all newbies I suggest getting your information from various sources and naturally use your common sense along the way.  There is actually a breeder that I remember here that recommended 1000mg of Lysine daily with herpes condition.  This is just one bad recommendation that I remember off the top of my head.

It was due to my research for my 15 year old girl who has herpes that lead me to find this article.  My girl happens to be sensitive to all antibiotics, whether ocular or oral. She tolerates nothing.  It was due to ths thesis I found that I was actually able to help her on my own for another year.  Even her specialist was amazed at how well she looked after not seeing her in 1 year. She was expecting a disaster and actually told me to keep doing what I am doing.

This person's  ACTION demonstrates to me as a breeder that she has the same passion I have.  She not only does with this thesis but also with the fact that she requires references from me should I wish to purchase from her along with her commitment to good health.  I can't even begin to tell you what type of e-mail responses I have received from some passionate breeders out there.  And no, there are not backyard breeders.

Here is the thesis and also a photo of my herpes girl since I feel that proof is required here with any possible claim someone makes.  I also may believe this will come as a shock to another member here since I never shared this information with her.  This breeder already had my endorsement even before she was recommended to me by her.

My best wishes to all new breeders that wish to take this endeavor the healthy way. :paw:

My personal experience is that Gentamycin keeps it in check, will work over
time - but only use if it's only the tear staining, or nothing serious at the time.

The following is to add to the information:
Viroptic Eye drops, http://www.medicinenet.com/trifluridine_eye_drops/article.htm
are the only things that stops it.  The latter works fast,
and stops the eye surface from ulcerating - which unchecked, can lead to eye removal.

With the short time I've had in rescue, I've delt with all of the above.  Now the Viroptic are fairly new, and I delt with it about 10 years after that test.

Just my personal experience.  I was informed by the Vet, that the Viroptic
drops were the latest in the development of eye care for that, but the drops
can run $75 - $100, depending on where you go.  It's a human prescription,
so some people get it through their insurance...

Celeste, please keep posting and every one. Like some have said this and all forums are meant for information.. given in friendship. The last post locked (for a good reason) has excellent information on it, and this one too. This is how we learn, but taking all information and reading it and learning from it. Naturally we will all go away with different views and ideas.. one can not learn by being close minded or demand that others see thier way . One can not learn if they take things personal.. all  should contribute.. I have read some great information from some of our members who have done extensive research, on the subject, who are now applying thier reseach to thier own cattery, this is what I like to see, people learning, reading and then applying what they have read to make our beloved Persians a better and top most healthier breed.. thank you all.. for your hard work and efforts.. please keep posting and updating us on all new discoveries that you find.. rememer with all gains thier is always a loss.. that is the only way things get better.I thank God everyday for Bluies good health, she has stress crystals sometimes but that is all . She came from a small in home lady who raise a few persians because she loved them and wanted to let other people enjoy the grace of a Persian in thier home..

Celeste, I am so happy you found the necessary medical information needed to treat Sassie's health issues on Tracy Smith's website. Tracy's contribution to the persian community whether through her scientific research or breeding healthy, sweet, and beautiful award winning show cats is outstanding. She deserves to be recognized with the utmost respect and appreciation. THANK YOU  Tracy for all that you have contributed to this forum as well.

Celeste has asked me to inform everyone that she will be spending her time taking care of her ailing cats. Allie has serious PKD issues, Sassie has health issues as you all know, and little Josh----I am very sorry to announce is in renal failure. Celeste wishes to spend the time her fur babies have left, caring and loving them and is truly the example of the perfect Fur Mom. Celeste would also like me to post her e-mail address. You may reach her at:  oscar1908@cox.net   OR   ilovepersians@cox.net

Celeste has been a vital and important member to this forum. She was the first person to help me when I joined out of my own need for information on PKD. Whether you needed help in posting a picture, overseeing a contest, direction in finding the best medical information, or just a kind compliment about your kitty---Celeste was ALWAYS there.
Celeste---you will be sorely missed and THANK YOU for all that you have done for us. You are not only the perfect example of a Fur Mom, but a perfect example of a caring human being and dear friend.

I wish you the best always.
Love and hugs,
Joan, Boo, Binky, and Buddy

I was so hoping that Celeste meant that she would only cease posting in this breeding forum and not on the entire site.     Celeste, I so enjoy all of your posts - not only for your knowledge of health issues, but for your kind heart and generous ways.   I hope you will return to us soon.   You will be missed.   Hug those beautiful babies for me.

Celeste, and all. This saddens me so when a few people can turn around a subject that is so beneficial to all of us into a personal childess dispute. Why?: I ask, what is so important aside from the well fare of our cats that we have to make these issues.. I post a lot, some of what I post I hope is helpful. some of what I post I know is not always agreeable with others, but it is how I feel but at no time do I think because I am older or wiser(laughs) that my information is better than anyone else.. It is like someone likes Blue someone else white. At no time has any post been a threat to any breeders or their objectives.. facts are facts you nor I can change them to suit ourselves or our goals.. you can banter back and forth and but facts are facts. Genetics is a tentative subject , newly discovered and the abilities and resouces it has to offer us to make things better and to eliminate bad . In doing so , some things we have come to love may have to go to the way side.. improvement is never painless.
When we read the posts.. please do not set about to examine every word and detail. like your life depends on it. I have noted, where there are a lot of he said she said.. explain this mostly pertaining to dates times. names.. well, you know what , at least , pertaining to me, lots of time when you are typing and trying to stick with a train of thought that happens. does it mean someone lied, of course not.. but leave it up to some nit picking zealous to see it.. does it mean I am stupid , nope, means I am careless and my fingers type faster than my brain.. let me just toot my own horn, I am blonde but not ever dumb.. well some would say I am old and do not know the new ways.. I would say, I have gone out of my way to keep learning, and exploring and trying out new things. so I do not age in that since.. age has nothing to do with it, your are never to young or to old.. but immature, yes, if the only way you are happy is to find something wrong with what someone else said, or hurry to out do them with your info, then , pre school starts in Sept.  this is a forum. to learn in, to share in, it is not a private class for a certain elite few it is for everyone... all of us.. reminds me of school, when there was the clicks.. well, that did not work for me either. They asked me to join and on the same day said I could not talk to my life time friend. she was not good enough.. so much for the click.. I do what I think is right. they black balled me for a while, but gave up and we were all friends when we graduated.. all breeders are equal. new ones, life timers. and all cat owners are important and it is important as pet owners we know what is going on and the changes being made.. so lets stop with this tug of war.. no one wants that I hope.. they pet owners and breeders love thier cats. they are trying to find ways to prevent the disease and help thier cat live happy life..
As for lab testing, and results.. be real.. there is never any lab that can 100 percent gurantee you results. Working as a  nurse I know how many times. samples were left out to long. mixed up or contaminated. any one that wants a good result has two test done.. it is your choice.. as for PKD1 or 2 or 3 or what ever, I feel as a pet owner, that any type PKD  is not good.. either the cat is clean or it is not.. to make the disease to go away , all of it has to go.. Now I know many do not agree and that is ok. that is your postion.. I respect it, but I do not and would never agree with it.. Patricia

I too was hoping Celeste was just going to stop posting in the breeder section and not entirely.  I am in tears. I have fallen in love with her miracle kitties. This is so sad.   I will miss you here Celeste and I am thinking of you and your beautiful wonder kitties.

Oh...I am deeply saddened to read this news..

I'm so sorry to hear that you've decided to leave the forum, Celeste.

I completely agree with Joanne and the others who've posted.
You've been such a valuable member of this community in SO many ways, helping others on so many different levels.
Your caring efforts in this regard stand on their own, and speak for themselves on the person you are, and the heart you possess. :flower:

Thank you for all your many contributions here.
A huge void will be felt with your absence Celeste, and I do hope down the road you will reconsider resuming here.

I understand you're wanting to focus on caring for your babies who've been so unfairly and sadly affected with such heartbreaking health issues.
I'm just so very saddened to hear this news of little Josh.
 To say that your energies are depleted at this time would I'm sure be an understatement.'

My heart and my prayers go out to you for your dearest kitties, and I send  gentle hugs and caring thoughts to you all. :flower:  :flower:  :flower:

I too was hoping she was simply referring to not posting in this section.I am deeply saddened by this, as I feel she contributed greatly to the site.
I will not go on and on, but will wish her all the best, and thank her for all I have learned from her at this point.....
