Smokey doesn't seem to do a very good job of grooming himself. In fact I don't know if he grooms at all. I don't think I've ever seen him do it. Time for another butt wash.  :?

Does anyone else have a kitty like that? I wonder if he can be trained. Snowy is so good about keeping herself clean.

It's pretty common and thankfully most kittens outgrow it. You might want to give him a sanitary clip for now just to make cleaning easier.

If I want to hear the pitter patter of little feet... I'll put shoes on my cats!

Both my cats groom themselves but once in a while I still have to give him butt wash. Fortunately it happens really rare because they are on raw diet and therefore they have bowel movements once in a few days and their poop is small and firm - this is one of the big advantages of raw diet over dry feeding.

Disclaimer: no way I'm trying to convince you to a raw diet, it's only up to you how you feed your cats.

Tosca cleans himself very well.  He's always done a pretty good job of that but, as a kitten, he did have the occasional "cling-on" ... that's pretty much normal for a kitten, they usually grow out of it.

Our first himmie was so lazy he never bothered
cleaning, we just got used to doing it for him.

I think some kitties find the job overwhelming.
