I think a bed will be waste of money and will end up somewhere on the shelf in the closet because cats usually do not use their beds. My cats prefer my bed (bigger and more comfortable, lol) but actually they sleep everywhere (but not in their beds!) - on the couch, on the floor, on the shelves, on the nightstands in bedroom, on the dining table or chairs - wherever. They definitely do not need "beds".

Recently my boyfriend brought food from Sam's club in a cardbox - wow, they loved it! Now they sleep there often and I couldn't throw it away - well, I put it in pantry and have to keep the door open for them.

The first thing you need is scratching post - you don't want the kitty to scratch your firniture, do you?Smiley. I'd advise to go with a big and heavy with a shelf on top - if you go with a little one (like I did when I got Julian), he will overgrow it quickly and it will fall down on him when he scratches his nails. So it will be waste of money.

Then you need nail trimmer - I'm happy with $5 trimmers from Petsmart.

Also you'll need Greyhound comb (maybe 7.5") and a flea comb (cheap one is o'kay).

You'll need lots of cotton swabs for cleaning the eyes.

I'd also bought kitty's bathing wipes (a pack of 100 for around $10 in Petsmart) - I use them all the time, shampoo.

Off course, you'll need litterbox and litter and maybe litterbox liners and litter catching mat.

My cats do not like expensive toys at all but they love table tennis balls and balls from a dollar store and a teaser. Also, I have some hanging toy on the door from Petsmart (for $5or$6).

I don't bother with cat nail clippers. I use human ones just like my vet does. I find them easier to use. As for the cotton swabs, make sure they are 100% cotton and won't shed and irritate the eye. Some cats will use a bed some won't. The important thing is to provide a quiet safe place for the litterbox and use the litter the kitten is used to to begin with. Make any changes (food, litter) slowly. Most people in my experience don't groom often enough and then wonder why the cat gives them a hard time about it. I know this isn't exactly answering your question as to what to buy, buy thought maybe I would toss my 2 cents in.

As far as the bed goes I would buy one but keep the tags on and the receipt just in case he doesn't want to use it.

My Maddie has never used one...she prefers my pillow or a pile of clothes. I bought one for Ginger and she didn't use it either but loves to sleep in the cat carrier if I have left it out. When I brought Bailey home I wasn't really prepared because I didn't know how things were going to turn out with his previous owner so I didn't have one. That night it suddenly turned very chilly and I put a laundry basket with lots of towels in it. It was his favorite place to be! I was so excited and went out to get him a bed....he never touched it

Kitties will find just about anything to play with (paper, pens etc) but I did get a very cool toy yesterday called a cat charmer. It is a long piece of bright stretchy fleece on a stick. They love it! I found Bailey all tangled around it this  morning! It is $5 at Petsupermarket.

For their eyes I use Swisspers cotton rounds with eye envy solution and powder. I think once it runs out I will just use warm water and boric acid.

You will learn so many tricks of the trade here. It is kind of like being new mom and joining a post with people who have 5 kids

maybe you can make your own i dont really think a bed is used but its nice to have it anyway also a good slicker brush and comb is a good idea to keep the coat from getting matted as it can hurt them
