Well a couple of days ago I went to give Mr. Fluffy his wet food, the same I have been giving him for the past month. The same brand and the same chicken flavour that he loves.

Today I noticed that he hasn't touched it at all, his dry food bowl is empty and he is crying to eat.

What should I do?

Throw the wet food away and give him dry food?

Or let him starve a bit til he eats the wet food?

Thanks

Oh I also put some dry food in with the wet and  he just ate the dry food.

I wish he could talk to tell me what he really wants

I've had cats decide they don't want meat or canned all the sudden. No clue why the sudden change. Sometimes they will go back to eating it sometimes they won't. But, they always have dry food available. I free feed dry so they have it available all the time. I would not leave the canned food down for extended periods if he doesn't eat it. Offer it, if he doesn't eat it within an hour - get rid of it. Have you considered a gravity feeder so he has access to dry food all the time?

So if he doesn't eat it within an hour I should throw it in the garbage can?
I think I should be the one contolling him and not him controlling me.

It seems the wife cooked some chicken legs today and I just gave him a few pieces.  He seems to be eating them but not the wet chicken prepacked stuff.

What gives?

Welcome to the world of fussy persian eaters.

Misha gets dry food available 24/7.  the bowl is available to him when he needs a bit of a snack.   I usually give him 1/2 can of one specific wet food -- the only kind he will eat-- in the morning.  He will eat for a bit, but then needs the food scraped into a pile for him again, so he can get to it.  Without a "muzzle nose" it is hard for them to get to the flat wet food. Misha will have nothing to do with any of the cat treats

It is a trial and error process to find what your particular cat wants.  Good luck as you keep trying.

It is my belief that Mr. Fluffy should always have dry kibble in his bowl and fresh water.  Cats don't just sit down and eat like a dog, they nibble, Elvis nibbles his dry food all day....

It may be that he has decided that he doesn't like the canned food.  My boy may lick it a bit, but, doesn't eat canned food.  I tried giving him sliced turkey, chicken, etc. and he would eat a bite, but, not the next time.

I now give him baby food, chicken, turkey, veal, etc.  He loves it!!!!  Eats it every morning like it was the first time.  I give him the Royal Canin kibble... and my vet says he has a good diet, and is in great shape.

I never forget what Elvis' breeder told me, they should always have something in their dish, its mental as well as physical, makes them feel at home.

Elvis' dish is never empty... unless he eats it all during the night and I have to hurry and fill it up the next a.m.

Good luck and you will find the right thing for Mr. Fluffy... they do have their own ideas about things tho.. smile

 Nancy's got it right on...cats are finicky.  Persians even more so.  If they like it today or even all month, the odds are pretty good they won't like it tomorrow   They especially decide they "don't like" a flavor if I happen to decide to buy a case of it.  I just know they look in the pantry and see why I have the most of then chat among themselves about how they won't eat that flavor

Lucky with 6, they usually mix and match if I put 3 or 4 flavors down and someone ends up eating it.  We leave it down 45 minutes and in the trash it goes.

You might want to change flavors, same brand...maybe he's just bored with it...or put a treat he especially like on it for a change.  The one thing I always pay attention to (in this world of "bad"food) is if they all refuse to eat something that they all have enjoyed recently and I just purchased a new batch.  They'll know if something's not quite right with a food much quicker than I and don't ignore that.   I'll take the food back and exchange it for something else.

We only put down a small serving each of dry just before bed for late evening and night snacking and feed wet two times a day.  They usually clean up their wet as they have an appetite.  I'm hesitant to "free feed".  Cats in the wild don't nibble all day and there's much research pointing to diabetes in mid to late life with free feeding of kibble with carbs. However, how we feed our furbabies is a very personal decision that we all have different thoughts and opinions on.   You must do your own research on that one  Cheesy

Hmmmm, I don't think those words work in the world of felines

Try the Liv a Littles dehydrated chicken, liver, salmon or cod.  They are fairly expensive at $10 to $12.00 per 4 oz, but with one cat will last awhile.  Three of mine would sell their little souls for a bit of this stuff!

It may work with dogs who a "pack" animals and need/accept a leader but definitely not with cats. Confronting a cat or punishing him or trying to force him to do what he doesn't want to do may lead to a huge conflict, his misbehaviour and finally you may just want to give the cat away because you'll both will just irritate each other.

Cats are our equal partners... well, I'd better say that Julian is my master and he controls me, I'm his servant (as well as my boyfriend), and I do not dare to "argue" his decisions Cheesy .

Please do not make Mr. Fluffy starve, starving is very unhealthy for adult cats and extremely unhealthy and even dangerous for kittens.

Well I threw away the wet food he wasn't eating and just gave him his water and dry food. Maybe in a week or 2 again I will give him another try at the wet food

Thanks

Like Judy's Elvis, Maddie loooooovvvveessss baby food! I mix it with oatmeal.

On the other hand, Ginger isn't crazy about it at all....she likes her food fresh so I give her raw (frozen first) or cooked chicken mixed with oatmeal.
