Ok ladies and gents.

I need help with making sense of this mess.

Libby is still having problems with the runs.  Im gonna give a basic run down of things that have happened with her food.

Originally she was on Diamond Professionals......  This worked wonderfully.  Hard firm non smelly poo's.  The company stopped making this formula!  We started to go down hill from here.

When my sister in law had libby for a period of time she had to go with
Cat Chow Naturals

Then decided to try A goodlife recipe indoor cat.
Both of these brands were firmish but still quite mooshy.

Then we got her back and put her on Royal Canin Persian.  She had the runs for two months, I thought a vet vist was in order.  Vet said it wasnt the food.  He gave meds, meds didnt work.

I took it upon myself to change her diet before taking her back for tons of tests.

We went with Maxximum Nutrition at walmart.  I really couldnt decide on anything else at the time and didnt want to pay 30 dollars for another bag of food that was just going to go to waste.  But this food worked great, firm, hard not too hard, non smelly, although it wasnt as dark as Id like to see, i wasnt going to complain.

I went back to walmart and they said "oh we arent carrying that brand anymore"  So I had to suddenly switch her to canned.

Even the canned 9 Lives Filets are fine....

We then had our feed store to order Diamond Naturals Indoor she tried that and again runniness.

So we went back to the canned.

BUT Libby is a free feed sorta girl.... she cannot stand it and thinks she's starving to death if her food bowl is empty, all the time following you around getting under your feet when you even get near her food spot.  So sadly I need to get her back on a dry food as quickly as possible.

Can someone point out the problem please?

Before you ask, I do switch her slowly until they stop selling something and have to switch quickly.

HELP!?!?  Im losing my mind.

I currenly have 3 shih tzu's and the 2 persians, I spend 30 bucks a month on the dogs food, and was spending 30 on the cats food, although the diamond is cheaper than most Id like to keep it around the 20 buck level if possible.

I ran into some of the same issues and switched to Chicken Soup for the Pet Lovers Soul and my kitties love it. They have firm non smelly poo and eyes look bright and weight is good. It's hard to find but the price is worth the trouble looking. You might even find a small pet store that will special order it for you, mine did.

I have found adding some Iams hairball formula to their food helps, in tough cases I go straight hairball. Hasn't worked everytime but enough to convince me to try that first.

The breeders i bought my  cats from both use IAMS hairball. I wonder if thats the reason..that they have found that it helps make firm poops. i dont know if im just going to the wrong store, but i cannot find the hairball formula in the large bags. i had thought about using IAMS hairball at one time because my local mentor/breeder so strongly recommends it. the regular IAMS i can buy in the large bags. It isnt much cheaper than what i feed now though. I feed natural balance ultra premium. costs 30.00 for a 15# bag. I go through 2 a month. Then i have my Newfoundland and German Shepherd to feed, costing me another 60.00 a month. so i totally know how it is having lots of furkids to feed and trying to save money. Im spending 120.00 a month on pet food!

Well I personally want to try *try* being the keyword, stay away from things that use byproducts in them.  I know that what she used to eat as far as diamond was concerned had byproducts in it.  But since becoming much more health concious for the dogs, im trying to stay that way for the cats as well.

I know that may not be possible at this point with libby.

BTW I sent an email to diamond regarding the professionals line and heres what I got.

I'm sorry that you've been having a hard time finding a formula that works well for your cat. Did you consider the Diamond Maintenance Cat? It is a recipe that is close to the old Professional Cat, just a bit lower in fat.  The Diamond Naturals Indoor Cat is a nice formula, but is quite differentfrom the old Professional Cat. It is lower in fat and higher in fiber and is designed to help control hairballs and keep cats in lean body condition. The Diamond Naturals Active Cat was introduced to take the place of theProfessional Cat. This would be another formula worth trying. I do not have the old label from the Professional Cat, but as I mentioned above, it was quite similar to the Maintenance Cat. I hope this helps. Let me know if you need any additional information.
