I have a couple of girls that I am showing that I would like to put some weight on. I have heard Royal Canine's Queen formula is a good dry food for this. I am also feeding raw patties from Bravo and soft food on occassion, but both girls are picky eaters and won't always eat raw or soft food....any ideas on how to put weight on would be appreciated.

Actually my Prudence is the same way... Very picky.  She has always been a little thin and it's because she's so picky about what she'll eat.  I tried everything.. All the expensive brands and all the vet brands.  And I finally found a food that she loves and eats like there is no tomorrow!!  The Goodlife Recipe.  I swear by it.  She looks so good now... Too healthy.  I am so happy about it.  She is also very active and energetic so she burns a lot of calories in a day.  So, if it works for her, maybe your picky girls will like it too.

I have a few dainty ones id like to see more weight on. I feed Natural balance ultra premium for cats and kittens.(pink bag) i bought some wellness core and mixed it in.

all of my cats came to me on IAMS..from two different breeders. Seems like a common food breeders use. i just dont like the by-products.

Having this exact problem but, with a boy - nice boy ....and he was just over 5 pounds at 8 months. I have been frustrated with getting weight on him. He has decided he no longer wants to eat meat, won't eat canned.

I began his "weight program" 10/29. Yesterday he weighed 7.01# Not where I want him to be yet but a HUGE improvement!

What I did was cage him, he has access to his dry food all the time, I have added a bit of "junk food" Fancy feast  dry(oh I know everyone is cringing LOL) and have found out he LOVES cooked chicken.

Everyone has their own ideas of course but this has worked for me - in less than a month he has put on a pound!

Sonnie "BEFORE" his weight program......hopefully I can get some "after" photos soon.

I will try the cooked chicken. i bet mine will love it too! my seal pt boy is 2 years old and i got him a month ago. He weighs 7lbs. Hes very compact and definitely smaller than my blue male who makes him look like a kitten.lol! my bluecream lynx pt female that i got along with my seal pt is very dainty at just 5 lbs. Shes the picky eater and was accustomed to just wet food. Very nervous kitty, and i have to put her all by herself when its time to eat. My other girls intimidate her i think. oh she is 4 years old btw. I think her appetite will increase once she has been here longer. When i got my first pair back in june they were the same way. now when its feeding time, they are eagerly at thier bowls.:-)

I'm sorry in advance if I sound "strange" but my experience comes from another country and "old times" (10 years ago, let's say).

If I needed my cat to gain some weight I would give him milk (more water, less milk, no non-milk food at least 2 hours before and after), and I'll add some yeast into this milk. In the first place it will make cat's hair longer (and encrease her chances to do well at the show), and in the second case it will contribute to gaining weight.

I would also start giving some supplements for hair growth - biotine (?) together with other vitamins (but you need to find the right amount, balance). I think at shows besides, off course, all this "standard conformance" things they judge "beauty", and first comes hair quality - length, thickness, silkiness, looks, and this hair quality is much more important for show then cat's weight itself.

I remember I spent hours and hours getting rid of these very long but dead and firm hair on my cat - I did it manually and one by one.

Also, my cat looked many times better when he was on "natural" food like raw meat (beef hearts, chicken hearts etc.), yorks, cottage cheese, oatmeal plus vitamins and supplements then on cats food. Maybe the cat food that they sell in Russia in 90's was just not good...

Nothing strange about that at all - I don't do the milk but, I mix biotin,  kitty bloom, missing link, lysine, egg yolks etc to my raw meat mixure, I've also began adding raw chicken to the mix - however, this particular boy will no longer eat it. The only easy thing to get in him is dermcaps which helps with the coat.

All this has helped with his brother and sister who are my signature kitties - I just had to try something different with him.

Hi I spent forever trying to find something my girls would eat to put on to gain weight. They used to make Whiskers Mealtime that they loved and then stopped, My Tinky was heart broken over that.  I then spent all year going thru every canned food known to man and then took home the Eagle canned Holistic from work and they love it.  It comes in 4 kinds and they love all of them so I give them that each evening.

Jaycee, that is what I did when Sasha had lost weight and needed to put some on.  I mixed the kitten version of her dry food with her regular food and she loved it.   I mixed it 2 parts regular and 1 part kitten food, but you could vary it as needed.

I love this topic because I too have a female that I think is small for her age. My husband has said time and again that she is too skinny. She refuses to eat raw or canned. She loves her dry food but it still isn't putting on the weight. I will give what Linda said a try. It sure can't hurt and I have tried everything else.

...in less than a month he has put on a pound!

Linda, the boy is VERY handsome.
Santana gained 0.7 pounds (from 6.5 to 7.2) in exactly 7 days. And he ran 3 story house running up and down the stairs and getting "wild" under Julian's supervision and playing (and burning calories) a lot. Not the first 3 days when he was pretty sick but still.

Maybe it's muscle that weight more than fat like in humans? :?: (don't know anything about cats).

My VERY PERSONAL impression is that chewing those dry food things burns lots of calories. I just watched Santana the first day how he ate RC Persian - TO ME he seems to burn energy. Most probably I'm mistaken, I know.

I was recommended human canned baby food for cats but I'm afraid it may stain coat of light-colored persians.

I saw special high-calories paste in Petsmart (by Tomlyn I guess, it stays next to Tomlyn Felovit II with Taurine on the same shelf and they are next to each other), they claim it for the purpose of cat gaining weight. I didn't try it though.

My opinion is still the same - dry brewer's yeast (or just dry yeast) mixed with any food.

Be careful with biotin - it is excellent for dark colors but it may darken undercoat (important for white or smokes or bi-colors show cats).

my vet recommended Royal Canin dry kitten food to put weight on phoenix, who wouldn't eat wet or raw.... she was skin and bones when i got her.  we did exclusively kitten food for 4 weeks then a slow transition to royal canin persian 30 and wellness core mix for the next 4 weeks... in total, she put on ~2lbs in 3 months. (from under 5lbs to almost 7lbs).
