Julian was on natural/raw diet since he was 3 months old and Santana was dryfed till 7.5 mo.

Yesterday I decided to check out their teeth, don't even know why it occured to me Cheesy . Julian's teeth are perfectly white and Santana's teeth have some yellowish color - they are not yellow, just not striking white like Julian's, and the difference is visible.

I've read that raw diet keeps their teeth white and healthy but I never really paid attention to it. Now I'm sure it's true Cheesy

I would say that age has something to do with the teeth.  A 3 month old has new baby teeth.. Bluie has been on a wet and dry diet for five years. At this time she has beautiful white teeth and a minute amt of tartar, very little. I do not brush her teeth because I like the idea of having all my fingers. but she has had dental treats since kitten hood.. I would not speculate which diet is best for teeth but I will say that for good teeth they need something hard to eat to keep the tartar off and teeth strong.. also a lot depends on gentic makeup of the cat.. I purchased toothpaste and an infant's toothbrush for Tosca a while ago.  He doesn't really like the toothpaste and I haven't persisted.  But, sometimes while he is sleeping, I use my finger nails and gently "scale" his teeth.  So far his teeth are good ... the vets have commented "Tosca has good teeth" ... let's hope it stays that way.  He's eating more wet food lately (to help prevent constipation, etc.) and I fear the wet food will cause tarter build-up  Sad

I feel like the worst mom ever- Mimi wont let me near her teeth and they aren't white at all. I rescued her from the ASPCA about 5-6 years ago and they said she was already 8 years old. The vet has told me that bacteria can get into her blood stream and cause major problems. is there something I can do to get Mimi to open wide?
