I'd like to start feeding Tosca some pumpkin on occasion.

Any recommendations on the use of pumpkin?

My vet said 1/4 tsp a day would be beneficial with respect to avoiding constipation and/or throwing up of hairballs.

What are your experiences with the use & efficacy of pumpkin.

Also, how do you store the canned pumpkin?

I bought a large can of pumpkin (they don't seem to sell small cans/jars) ... do I freeze most of it so as to prevent it from going bad once opened?

I'd really love to hear people's opinions on the use of pumpkin, your experiences with it, in what format you get your pumpkin (canned?) and how you store it once opened.

Thanks.

My vet suggested pumpkin for constipation, but I never used it...the problem corrected itself.  I had checked on how to store the pumpkin once it's opened, and it can be frozen.  It's a good idea to freeze it in ice cube trays and pop one out when you need it.

I didn't know that it's good for hairballs too.  I wish the vet had mentioned that to me, hairballs were a problem for Sasha.

I've offered my cats pumpkin and most of them love it.  It's got lots of fiber and vitamins.  Make sure you purchase pumpkin with no spices, etc, added.

We buy plain canned pumpkin and separate the can into about 4 servings.  Keep one out and freeze the rest.  Put the pumpkin in a bowl and mix with water until a nice "lapable" consistancy.  They each take turns scarfing up about once a week.  It's considered quite the treat.  Sometimes we mix in some "baby" chicken or partial can of fav cat food.

With the six, it works out that it's gone in about a hour. :paw:
