I heard someone mention in another post teaching a cat to drink from a bottle.  Do you mean like a bottle for hamsters? Tom is 7 wks old and still doesn't have that long of hair but even so when he drinks water he get water on his chin, is that why?

Hey Casey
Well I guess sort of like a hamster water bottle. The ones I use are free standing from....

It can take a little work to get them on them. But, if you do decide to try it I have some tips for helping them get on a water bottle.

Other things you can try are water bowls with small openings(beehive)...

I have never tried one - but, some people also like fountains - I don't have a wbsite for that though I'm afraid.

All my babies are on it.

Dogs and cats.  Only took 2 days for both cats to learn it and they learned it just by watching the dogs.

My dad made them for me.

He used his power tools to cut the slit out of the whole and then we use the Lixit brand bottles.

I used 1 peice of a 4" pvc pipe that is 2 foot long, cut in half, then added the 4" coupler to the bottom, and painted with Fusion spray paint.

I painted a Navy one and Maroon.

My cats were raised on bottles from the breeders i got them from. I didnt use bottles at first cause i just felt like they would get more from drinking out of a bowl. Well, thier chins became messy and started to get tangly..so i have everyone on bottles now. My husband made me woodstands with wire in the middle to  hold my water bottles on. now if i could only find a water bottle that didnt slowly..drip...drip...drip..so annoying!

oh they get enough water, because they wont stop licking/drinking until they are hydrated enough, it may take them longer but the end result is the same.

I've had the bottlebabies standing waterbottle for a few days, but haven't managed to get Phoenix to drink from it. Any tips?  I've tried sprinkling a little catnip on the metal part and even demonstrating myself ( ) but no luck.  I emailed bottlebabies and they said to remove her water dish forever, but I am not comfortable doing tht unless she actually understands how to get water from the bottle. right now, i put the standing bottle right next to her food and water dish...but she's not very curious about it.....  any tips, pretty please with catnip on top? (She doesn't like wet food or peanut butter, and I don't know what else to try rubing on it).

btw, she's 7 yrs old...she can still learn a new trick, yes?

Does she like human baby meats?  If so, put a dab on the tip of your finger and let her lick it off, then a dab on the end of the water bottle tip.  Usually something like that that the kitty really likes works.  I'm sure others will jump in with their fav tips!

take tuna juice and put in with the water.

then stick her head to it and let her lick it, and she should taste the tuna in the water and want to drink more.... once she learns that this is where water comes from, then remove the water bowl, especially after you see her licking it on her own.

The tuna water and the dab of food on the tip are good to help learn the water bottle, but, keeping the bowl down too won't help. You do need to pick it up for extended periods so she will use the water bottle. Once she does it once she'll be fine.

I had a boy that took MONTHS to get on a water bottle, the day he finally figured it out was what I called the "Helen Keller moment" WA WA!!

Just keep trying!
