Hi everybody.
Well my poor Bailey has a severe corneal ulcer and was just wondering what advice anybody can give me.
His treatment for feline herpes/conjunctivitis/corneal ulcer is as follows:
 tobramycin drops 3 times daily
idoxuridine anti viral drops 10 times daily(first day was every 5 mins for 30 mins)
250 mg of l-lysine twice daily
 oral antibiotic once daily.
Im just wondering if this sounds right as his treatment plan has changed 3 times now.
I'm hoping I may have him on the right track finally as he does show a little improvement and his form is much better.
I have read that corneal ulcers can be very painful but he doesn't seem to be in any pain, also how long usually does it take to get better,
I have a follow up visit in about 5 days to see if it is healing.
Thanks for any advice i can get.

It sounds like you are on the right track, keep up with what the Vet says. If it is not too serious it only takes about a week to heal but it is very important to follow it closely. My cat was found to have one today but it is deep and so more serious. Good luck.

My cat had an ulcer and they put her on clavimox antibiotic solution, and lysine and an ointment that had saline in it. I just finished the clavimox, i guess that is how it is spelled, and I am doing the lysine now. I hope it works this time. The last time the vet said that she had a stubborn case.

Sparky is getting Tobramycin and they gave her a NSAID drop for pain. I am not giving her the NSAID as I read it is to be avoided with a corneal ulcer, it slows healing. I can't get in to see my Vet until late tonight so I don't know what she'll want to do. Sparky's is not viral though, I think it is caused by a condition called entropian, the eyelashes turn in and scratch the eye. If that is the cause it will be surgical. Good luck, sounds like your Vet is covering the bases.

What is the name of the antiviral drops so I can ask my vet for them?

The cat is eating well and drinking well. I had her to two vets at two different locations. One just kept giving amoxicillan and eye ointment the other vet gave lysine powder and clavimox and an ointment that was a saline compound to make some swelling go down. I have also had her on tobramycin drops and ointment. There has not been an antivirul drop though.
