You can print the litter registration off the CFA website. You fill out the sire and dame's info, how many kittens, your address etc. This will register the litter - you will get a "blue slip" for each kitten in the litter and a litter registration slip

The blue slip is what you will need to individually register a kitten

Now pre-registering the kitten means you go ahead and pick out a name and send this all in with the litter registration. In this way you have registered the litter AND done each kitten's individual registration. (it skips the blue slip part and you will get an actual registration slip for each kitten with it's name on it)

The only problem with pre-registering is if the new owner doesn't like the name you have choosen they have to send the kitten's registration back in to get the named changed.  If however, it is your intention to keep any of these kittens pre-registering can save you a little bit of money.
