I can't remember, I know that cats are in season in  the spring, is there another time of the year that they also are? And once they are in, do they go out once they are mated? If not, how long do you keep them away from the male? I know that we are suppose to only keep them together for 3 days.

Cats are stimulated ovulators, that means females can be brought into heat by being put with a male.  If you don't want kittens, you can't house an intact male and female together.  Also, every cat cycles differently.  They don't just come into heat in the spring, they come into heat several times a year.  Most of my girls come into heat about once a month.  Thankfully, none of my girls go into hard heats (meowing, panting, stuffing their butt in your face, etc)...

Those symptoms that you quoted is what I have seen my cats do. What are the symptoms that your cats give to let you know they are in heat with the less dramatic symptoms?

It's not so much my girls, but my boys that let me know when my girls are in heat.   Even my neutered males will pay girls a little extra attention when it's 'that time'...
