I always use Stainless Steel. It's to help prevent Chin Acne.

I use big metal dog bowls for both food and water.  No acne problems, the bowls are big enough for the Persians to eat and drink out of, and the food in the bowl lasts for an entire day.  They are also wider on the bottom than on the top so I don't have to worry about someone tipping them over.  I have two sets, so they go into the dishwasher for a full scrubbing once a week and get washed in hot water with soap the rest of the days.

I also have a Drinkwell, which the cats love, but I am not so sure about.  It gets nasty after a few days and I have to tear it apart and scrub it out.  It is plastic, so I am sure that it will not last long before I have to replace it.

I highly recommend getting a drinking fountain style waterer. Mine is drinkwell brand and is pink to go with my girls! Smiley

for bluies wet food I use cermic, flat plate with just a tiny lip on it, she does not like to put her face in a bowl and with her flat face she can get most of it this way. I also set it up on a low stool so she can reach it better. For her dry food I use a cermic low bowl. I just cover the bottem with food. It is wide enough so she does not brush her whiskers on it.. for her water she has a water fountain, an the jug type waterer. I always keep her water receptacle filled to the top.. . these are plastic but Bluie has never had a problem with acne..

Hi! I used ceramic bowls for their moist food and a plastic bowl for their dry food.  No acne on them.  Linda

Tosca uses and likes low (shallow), wide dishes.  He has some in plastic and some in ceramic.  No acne here either! :flower:  :apple:  :flower:

we use a Cat It water fountain, and also an older PetMate water fountain. The cats seem to like the running water. Tweezer would always bat at the water in a dish, and make a mess. He doesnt do this with the fountains, I guess its because he can see the water running. Thay are plastic, but pretty easy to clean, and the filters catch alot of the hair, so their water stays cleaner, longer.

We have never had a problem with chin acne.

If you want to show your kitten/cat or if you just want to keep his ruff clean and free of nasty water stains, training him to drink from a water bottle is a must and really not as difficult as you might think. For those of us who don't cage our cats, and most pet owners don't   , a water bottle that already comes with it's own stand is really helpful. I buy mine at:http://www.bottlebabies.com

They have several different sizes. I use the 10 oz size for kittens and the larger size for my adults. There are other places you can get water bottles on stands, but bottle babies really hold up. I'm still using the first one I bought 7 years ago! I have trained all of my cats and the kittens I place to drink from a bottle baby. :flower:
