I was running some errands this morning and in a great mood (did a little shopping Wink)

I was coming home and turned in to the entrance to go in the gate of my developement and waited for the car ahead to go in, instead they reverse right into my car  Shocked  We all get out. The two guys are in their late teens, early twenties (polite but still made me a little nervous) ....we check out the cars and they tell me..."Oh no big deal....you got lucky". Well, there's a crack so I call my husband and of course he wants me to call the cops. They wanted to give me money but I said no. They were very adamant about not calling the cops...said they had insurance but didn't want it to go up  Well, nothing they could do because they were blocked in...the gate in front and me in the back. Then a man comes up and says "you have to move your cars...you're blocking the gate" so he opens the gate for the kids and I say "ok, lets go right there" inside the gate and they say "no, we'll go right there" outside the gate. We go out, stop, all get out of the cars and then they jumped in their car and took off  :?

Luckily while I was talking to my husband he told me to give him their tag number so he called it in. I actually remembered the make and model of the car to my surprise (not only was I nervous but I had just finished a nice big Starbucks which always makes me a little jittery!)

The cops came and I gave a statement and description. The driver was not the man in the picture that showed up on her computer (but looked like an older versian of the passenger). Hopefully they find them...

That is a frightful experience Karen....
With all you hear about car jacking....I think it would have been safer for you to have remained in your car, and used your cell phone to call the police and your hubby...
Good for you for taking down the tag numbers...I hope they catch them..
I'm glad you weren't hurt...and there was not too much damage done to your vechicle.

Wow, they actually ran away?  I'll bet they didn't have ins.  With so many out of work, premiums aren't getting paid.  They may lose their license for a thing like this.  You were on your toes Karen.  Getting that license number and car make/model was way more than I would have thought to do.  Hope they get the sucka!

 I can't believe they took off like that. They must've not had insurance. It was good you gave as much info as you did. I hope they find them. Makes me wonder if they stole the car too.

OMG!!! That's awful!!! I'm so glad your ok and weren't hurt and that they didn't hurt you cause if they were desperate enough to run, well I don't even want to think about that but just glad your ok!

Did they touch your car with their hands? Fingerprints maybe? Just a thought!

Take care sweetie and grab a kitty and snuggle for a bit and maybe that'll calm your nerves a bit.

Then they take off and leave the scene of the accident. I hope they catch them soon.. Pat

Thank you everyone for your nice words Smiley

The more I think about it I guess I shouldn't have gotten out of the car but i've never been one to think before I act in a tense situation unfortunately

Cindy, I don't remember if they touched the car...I think the driver may have touched where the crack was just barely...trying to say it was just the paint coming up (like i'm an idiot). I will mention it to the officer that is supposed to follow up with me tomorrow (and be sure no one touches it).

I don't know if I should make the claim with my own insurance company yet...will it make my insurance go up?

I'm so glad you were able to give the license number to your husband!  When they find them, and I'm sure they will, they will regret their idea of running.  This will really not look good for them.  So instead of a small fender bender, it's going to be hit and run.

Karen, that IS scary.       I doubt seriously that this will affect your insurance.  You got the license plate and have a witness that you tried to take care of it.  (I'd still be aggravated at the guy who opened the gate for them.)   I'm just glad you are okay.

I'm betting that not only were they not in their own vehicle, but they were trying to get into a gated area without permission.    :?

Actually yes, it can effect your insurance as you will be making a claim - I would get an estimate first and find out what your deductible is before doing that though.

I am very glad you are safe and sound, that could of turned into a bad situation - and I'm betting it was more than just not having insurance that made them take off.
