As of May 1, 2009, breeders can show our LH zots;  passed the board by a vote
of 10 yes and 8 no.

They will be shown in Persian classes but scored as LH zots;  as of
April any litter of LH zot x LH zot and LH zot to Persian will not be
register-able.

This is disappointing to my ears but I'm sure there's plenty of breeders out there happy about it as they do create some LH Exotics they wish to show.

This is really just a slap in the face to persian breeders.

I have always said I really dont care if they want them to be shown, in their own class i.e. exotics LH division and SH division. But this is not right. It gives the persians a terrible handicap.

I totally agree - why don't they split up zots as LH and SH (never could figure out why exotics were shown as LH anyway in CFA).

Compete with....but, scored as...... I have never heard anything so stupid!!

After all this fuss over getting this passed, I'll be curious to see the "huge" numbers of LHE's that were claimed would be shown. (wonder how many will "come out of the closet" LOL) And the TICA people who can show LHE's won't be coming, they are in TICA for a lot more reasons than because they can't show LHE's in CFA.

it's mostly european driven but I've always said after all this trouble there better be a flood of them. They make it sound like they arent showing them already *wink wink*.

I'm confused, does this mean a LH exotic would not have papers if he were born after April? Why isn't the kitten registered under Exotic still?

I assume it just means that long-haired exotics are registerable (and showable) when they are progeny of either a short-haired exotic to longhaired exotic breeding or a short-haired exotic to Persian breeding so as to ensure that the "purpose" of exotic breeding programs continues to be to create/keep short-haired exotics coming.

Personally, I am happy to see this development (i.e., that longhaired exotics will now be able to be shown and earn championships in the CFA).  But then I'm from Canada where our CCA, similar to TICA, registers, shows and grants championships to elh.  In CCA though, ELH win championships as ELHs (just as Persians win as Persians, ESH win as ESH, Himalayans win as Himalayans [not Persians in CCA]).

LOL that is EXACTLY what I meant by "coming out of the closet"!!

And yes Jaycee apparently that is what that means - a LH zot must now have ONE SH parent (well as of May 1st) to be registered.

What I'm surprised didnt pass was the time limit to use persians. I guess because they can compete in persian class there was no need.

Personally I voted for them to have a 5 year limit on using the persians in the program and then no more but aparrently that's not good enough.

does this mean there is no time limit at all on how long they can use persians?

Yippie!  I had two wonderful ELH females that I placed as pets last year because I couldn't show them, now I have the option to keep them.  I wish that they would make it fair for the persians tho Sad  Sorry Guys

At this point in time no. But eventually there probably will be as the Exotic still wants to remain it's own breed.

I am a bit confused
having bred Persians and Exotic felines for five years and registering them in FIFE, never had I heard of a Long Haired Exotic assuming the shorthaired exotic was the counterpart to the Persian.

Can any one place some links where I can read up on this?
Why would anyone want a long haired Exotic anyway, wouldn't the hair be stiff?  And why should Persians feel at a disadvantage to them, IMO Persians when properly groomed look like a fluffy cloud and a peice of heaven!
