Smokey doesn't have to much of a problem with tearing not like my vans/bicolors do. I usually just use wash cloth & warm water on her , what do you guys use?

Same here, just a warm washcloth, that's the wonderful thing about blacks, no staining!

I just use make up rounds and water also. While blacks eyes don't stain they will "rust" - turn red around the eyes, so while you can't see stuff built up around their eyes it still needs to be cleaned every day.

I've found that to be true Linda, even though you can't see the crusty bits as easily they are still there.

I treat my black persians eyes the same way I do my whites.. it's no difference to me. I agree with fulton about the rust/staining, so i still pack and clean eyes with eye/wound powder.

no, never used vaseline. I could see that getting wiped from the eyes, onto the paw onto the head and ending up with a really greasy cat LOL. I would not recommend that.

Midnight doesn't tear much thankfully. When he does, I get a warm wash cloth and wipe his eyes.

The rust thing is interesting...I always thought that staining wouldn't be a problem with blacks.
Bailey has some light orange around his eyes, mouth and nostrils...I don't know if that is his coloring or just the stains from not being cleaned regularly. I guess i'll find out in a little bit...

All cats stain, they just do it in different ways, blacks tend to "rust", you will notice it in all the areas you spoke of. You will notice it on their ruff if they tend to be messy drinking out of a bowl of water.
