I had to put down my little Sweet Pea today, and I'm not doing well. She was a rescue from the HS, and she had had a very tough life.

She had been abused for her first 3-5 years. I adopted her 4 years ago. We celebrated our 4th anniversary last week. As a special treat I gave her tuna water. What a mess. All over her face, dripping down her chest. She stunk like tuna for days. But it was worth it.

Saturday morning at 5am she started throwing up. This went on for hours until I had to bring her to the emergency hospital.  She was a very sick girl. An enlarged kidney, cists on her liver. Among other underlying issues.

I knew when I adopted that she had health problems because of the abuse that she had suffered. Colitis was a problem. And a  nervous disorder. But through all of this she was the sweetest critter ever.

She was a real ambassador of good will. All she wanted was to be loved.
She never hissed at anyone, and never scratched or bit. Even when the other cats were mean to her, and they were. She just took it. What a lesson we could all learn from her.

A very small shaded silver (5lbs on a good day) her heart was as big as the moon. We relocated from California to Florida last year, and the move did not do her any justice. She had a VERY tough year.

Because of her health issues she had to endure many vet visits. I could not find a good vet out here. Every vet visit ended in a nightmare. Always getting roughed up from some bonehead tech.  It took her days to recover from a simple check up. ( I will not go into details, but they caused her pain.)

I'm so sorry that I put her through this. What a drag. My heart is shattered.

I would like to thank this web site and its community for all the knowledge and support that they gave us over the years. She was Persian of the Week when I submitted her picture after I first adopted her.  I thank you for this memory and the pride I felt when I received the notice, "Your cat has been chosen Persian of the Week".  Her picture is still there under Silver.

My keyboard is dripping with my tears. I can not type any more.
I love you all.............................thank you.........................

I will be writing a memorial once I can get my head wrapped around what had just happened today. I'm still in shock.

God bless Sweet Pea..............and all the other criiters who are suffering!

AndyPez,

I am so sorry for you. Sweet Pea sounds like such a champ. And it seems that you took the best care you possibly could. It was a miracle for her to survive such abuse and it was even more of a miracle for her to find you. You saved her life and helped transform it, even if only for a few short years.

That is everything.

I'm so sorry.  Your Sweet Pea sounds like such a sweet and loving girl.  I can understand how heartbroken you are--I recently lost my Sasha.

My words seem inadequate.  Please know that you have my sympathy at this most difficult time.

Hello,
I thank you all for the kind words of compassion!! They mean so much to me in this time of sorrow. I treasure them.

Those of us who are long time pet owners have been through this before. As I have. It never gets easier. I always took comfort in the fact that thier suffering was over. That they were at peace now, and looked as such after all was said and done.

What haunts my dreams (nightmares) now, is that after 2 days in the ICU and an oxygen tank, is that my poor Baby Pea looked like a wreck. Even after the deed was done (in my lap). Peace did not come easy.

She was a fighter! And I gave her a fighters chance! But in the end she couldn't fight this one. I love her so much. I visited her twice a day, just so she wouldn't feel abandonded. I brought her favorite toy, and placed it in the tank with her. Just for comfort I quess.

Anyway.........Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. She's going to need them now!!!

I miss the Pea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sincerely,
Andy

PS.....does anyone know where Pat Hodge is? She was always so kind, and I looked forward to her words of wisdom!!

Hi Andy,
Pat is around. She has the user name of Azurine101 (I think). You can always search and send her a PM.

Andy, I am very sorry to hear this news.  Nothing seems to matter when your kitty passes away, except that they are gone.  You provided a loving home for her and gave her the love she needed and that is all that really matters.  She was a very luck kitty to have some one look over her and now she looks over you.  I send my thoughts and prayers to you.
