Let's try to make the chat room a place that is friendly and courteous. Here are some tips on good etiquette to remember while chatting.
-
Good Manners: Of course, it's easy to get caught up in a conversation with someone and not notice when a new person comes into the chat room. If you can, try to acknowledge newcomers. And if they ask questions, do your part to see that they're not ignored. Even though this is cyberspace, it's easy to have hurt feelings.
-
Appropriate Topics: Use good judgment while engaging in dialogue with others. There is nothing wrong with a conversation that steers away from cats, but it's best to avoid certain subjects. For example, we ask that you refrain from discussing sex, politics, religion, etc. (You will find that there are plenty of other chat rooms and bulletin boards elsewhere on the Web for such exchanges.) We want people of all ages and backgrounds to feel welcome here. Also, please remember that Persian-cats.com is not a dating service, so do not use the chat room to try and "pick up" someone.
-
Safety: No discussion of any illegal activity or threats of violence (i.e., illicit drug use, including medical marijuana use, threats of suicide or self-injury, or threatened or intended physical harm). Discussions of suicide or self-harm that are deemed negative and therefore potentially injurious to others are also not permitted.
-
Harassment/Personal Attacks: Please remember to be polite. A healthy debate is fine, but personal attacks are unacceptable. We want people to feel welcome here regardless of their differing views.
-
Language/Content: Please refrain from posting explicit, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, profane or indecent information of any kind. In other words, if you wouldn't say it in front of your family or your boss at work, then you should think twice about posting it here.
-
Disruption: Don't cause trouble. Don't needlessly pick on people. While chat room disruption doesn't always rise to the level of harassment or personal attacks, it is still no fun. If you find it necessary to pick on people, do it elsewhere. Users who engage in repeated disruption are candidates for account deletion, just as if they engaged in harassment or personal attacks.
-
Getting Personal: Do not give out phone numbers or addresses in the chat room! Please do not share copies of emails or private messages. If you are having a personal disagreement with someone, please keep it private. To our younger members: Never tell anyone where you live. If asked, just explain that you're not comfortable giving out that info.
-
Impersonations: Anyone attempting to pass him or herself off as another member will have his or her user account removed. This includes registering several different user accounts & using those accounts as if they were controlled by different people.
-
Moderators: Do not disrespect our moderators. Moderators are volunteers who donate countless hours of their own time to help keep our online community a safe and friendly place. Be respectful towards them in the Forum, Chat Room, and any private communications. Violations of this rule will not be tolerated.
If you see a violation, you may report abuse at https://persian-cats.com/users/abuse.shtml. (Please include details or the transcript, if possible.) Moderators have the right to edit or delete posts without prior notice that violate of the rules above.
Persian-cats.com reserves the right to, in our sole discretion, terminate your membership to our site without prior notice to you for violating any of the above guidelines or for any other behavior we deem inappropriate.
Persian-cats.com, LLC (our corporate name) cannot guarantee the accuracy or validity of any information shared in the chat room. Therefore, all visitors to Persian-cats.com should handle such content with appropriate caution. Users should consider any information and advice given by other users, particularly veterinary/medical advice, as a starting point for their research.
We hope that you'll find our chat room to be helpful and supportive.
