Before You Breed a Persian

Yellow Light

Spring is in the air, daylight hours are getting longer, and our girl cats are coming into heat...

"Hmm..maybe just ONE litter of kittens would be fun."
"We should have just ONE litter for the kids."
"I want to breed her so i can have kittens just like her."
"I just want ONE litter to make back the money i spent on buying her."
"Well, she's a purebred, papered Persian - why NOT breed her?"

Persian Cat: Chocolate & Lilac Color

Chocolate & Lilac

Chocolate or lilac Persians? Can it be possible? I, as an owner, breeding Persians and Exotics, pose myself such a problem quite recently. Of course they exist, if to see from genetic point of view. These colors are included into standard, there is their description, but where are they? By all accounts from abroad, they have such animals but for some reason they are more often met in pedigrees of British cats as experimental partners for leading new color into the breed, but not like exhibition stars.

Tips On Responsible Cat Breeding

Books & Gavel

Cat breeding is not as easy as just letting cats mate. Breeding is not just about choosing cats to produce adorable kittens to earn money. To breed cats is not the same as to produce them. Breeding encompasses that stage.

Breeding cats involves scientific and systematic concepts. Producing cats involves only common sense. Breeding cats has an emotional aspect to it. Fulfillment does not come from mere moneymaking. Sacrifices have to be made to achieve the breeder's goal: to safeguard the welfare of the cats.

Persian Cat Breed Origin

Map Symbol

There's a beautiful legend which tells that the Persian cat was created by a wizard from a sparkle, which jumped out of the fire, the shimmer of two far away stars and a curl of grey smoke. I'd say that this legend rather closely describes appearance and temperament of the Persian cat, but the real history of Persian cat breed is not less interesting or less mysterious.
