Caring For Your Persian Cat in Winter

Winter

One of the telltale signs of winter for a Persian cat owner is that their pet's fur starts to thicken a lot more. Regular grooming is of course always vital to keep that long fur looking good and prevent it matting, but, once the weather turns cold, this task becomes even more essential – and you may have to get out the brush and comb several times a day.

Persian Skin Revealed

Persian Skin

The Persian's coat is certainly one of its most exquisite characteristics -- and dare we say, often award-winning. But sometimes there can be surprises lurking beneath all that fine fur. So we invited our members to help us explore this dermatological world and share their personal experiences from the front line (no pun intended) when it comes to maintaining healthy Persian skin. We are happy to share the results of that survey along with many tips and tricks from our members.

An Owner's Guide to Anemia in Cats

Blood Cells

Anemia in cats is a condition that occurs when there is not enough hemoglobin or red blood cells produced. It is not a disease, but merely a symptom of an underlying condition or disease. So, what exactly causes it?

Causes
Many things can cause this condition. The kidneys are responsible for producing hormones that stimulate red blood cell production. So, kidney disease is one of the most common causes. Parasites such as ticks, fleas, and hookworms are another leading cause.

Ear Mites in Cats

Ear Light

Cats, more than of the other common house-pets, are susceptible to ear mites. Fortunately, when caught early, an ear mite infestation can easily be treated. Knowing the early warning signs makes the difference between a minor inconvenience and a major irritation. If your cat experiences these warning signs, you should see a veterinarian as soon as possible:

* Itching
* Scratching the ears and/or head
* Head shaking, as if trying to shake the mites out
* Scabs and/or hair loss on the head or around ears

"Hmm..maybe just ONE litter of kittens would be fun."
"We should have just ONE litter for the kids."
"I want to breed her so i can have kittens just like her."
"I just want ONE litter to make back the money i spent on buying her."
"Well, she's a purebred, papered Persian - why NOT breed her?"
