Eye-Cleaning Tip
(This information came from Amy C.)

Eye drainage can be very troublesome for both Persians and their owners. Because the Persian's nose is so small, the tear ducts are almost non-existant. To clean a cat's eyes, you can use a sterile cotton ball and warm water. You can even used Q-tips if you are careful. A good solution that can be mixed up at home is an eighth of a teaspoon of boric acid and 8 oounces of water. Shake it up and wet the cotton ball. Be careful not to get too much boric acid because it can irritate your kitty's eyes.

How to Remove Cat Urine Odors
(This information came from Joanne S., Darlene C., and Jen M.)

Hard to believe that such a beautiful animal can leave such a nasty odor. If an accident does occur, the first thing you should do is check to see if your cat is displaying signs of UTI or other illness. A visit to the vet is wise just to be safe.

Nonetheless, if your kitty urinates on your carpet or furniture, you must be creative when cleaning it. One suggestion is a product called Nature's Miracle. Apparently, it is fantastic at removing urine and it can be purchased at pet stores. Simply pour it on and cover the area with aluminum foil until it dries. It will take about 3 days, but the smell should be gone.

Another bright idea is to use white vinegar. On the carpet, you can sprinkle bicarbonate of soda powder or borax powder - it keeps pets and kids away, too. It will absorb the urine. Once it hardens, you can lift it up easily. Then use the vinegar. It should neutralize the odor very well.

Flea Control

Here is some information about popular flea control products. Ask your veterinarian for more information about these treatments.

Advantage by Bayer
Advantage kills 98 - 100 percent of adult fleas within 12 hours of application, and reinfesting fleas are killed within two hours. It kills fleas before they have a chance to lay eggs -- therefore breaking the flea life cycle. One convenient treatment lasts for up to one month.

Program by Novartis
Program Flavor Tabs prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing. This breaks the flea life cycle at its base, and effectively wipes out the flea population.

Revolution by Pfizer
Revolution enters the bloodstream through the skin. Concentrations of Revolution in the blood and intestinal tract prevent heartworm disease and treat gastrointestinal parasites, respectively. Revolution selectively redistributes from blood to sebaceous glands, which are found below the skin's surface. Revolution's presence in the sebaceous glands and in the skin is the reservoir of drug that provides protection against fleas, flea eggs, ticks and mites.
