I adopted a beautiful persian given up by a breeeded. he has been the most loving and happy cat however his mats got so bad that the vet suggested giving him a lion's cut so he can start over with new fur. We brought him home yesterday and he is hissing and growling and won't come near my husband or myself. The vet said he should be ok by today which it has been 24 hours. I am feeling really bad now and my other cat is pacing b/c we have seperated them. I am afraid the old cat that was happy and loving is gone b/c he is so traumatized. Any suggestions/thoughts or even comforting words. I feel like a bad mother:) Thank you. |

He will be better today, He was indignant last night. You removed his hair, Persains own their hair.. If I cut a wad from Bluie she will take her paw to pull my hand near so she can bite it out of my hand.. I say, No.. make sure he is warm,, as he will feel a little cold, a warm bed with a blanket... kitty bed.. pick him up when you can an cuddle him and keep telling what a pretty boy he is. he is have a catitude fit,, he is upset with you and the vet. be sure to blame the vet ,poor little guy, look what that vet did, Pat |

He has now hidden himself deep within my closet. I put food out for him and hope that he will come around. I tried petting him but he hissed and growled. I will just leave him be for a while. I will never shave him again. |

Give him a little time. He'll be fine. My two were done in February. They weren't too pleased when I first brought them home, but decided I was warm... (-:
Plus, the bed's heated... |

My Persian, WIlbur, is back to his old self. I shook his treat can and he came running. He was hesistant all day yesterday but today he is 100 times better. My other cat, however, won't go near him and hisses and swats at him. It seems like my other cat completely forgot who my Persian is. They were pretty close before and would play rough sometimes but it is obvious that my other cat is totally freaked out about Wilbur. It's very difficult b/c I work and have to leave them during the day. I hope I don't come home to bloodshed. |
Got anything with Wilbur's scent on it? (old blanket, bedding). Rub him with it to restore his old smell. Should settle things down quickly. |

Things are looking up. They are now eating together although my other cat seems a little freaked out by Wilbur but Wilbur is also unsure of his new haircut. He growls when he sees himself in the mirror. What a cutie pie. Thanks for all of your replies. They were very helpful. This is my first time owning a Persian so I wasn't prepared. |

We were given Humphrey(8) in june by an old man who couldnt look after him anymore. when we first saw him he was so matted (almost like he had bever been brushed before) he kept trying to bite through his matts so we decided to keep him & get him a lion cut, id chipped & vaccinated. we had spent quite alot of money on him but it was worth it.
Now, he gets brushed everyday & his coat is coming back beautifully. He was upset with us at first & his bottom was sore but a couple of days later you could really see the difference in him. he can now move about freely & i can tell he really appreciated it. |
