What are signs of an upper resp. infection in persians? My baby has had some weird things going on for a few days and I'm a little suspicious. Hoping it's just a cold but I wanted to see what symptoms I should be looking for. Thanks! |

I bought a kitty with a cold. He sneezed all night long and had weepy eyes. I took him to the vet and he was given an antibiotic and all cleared up just fine. My friend has a persian and just got over a URI. Her vet told her there was something going around right now and that a lot of cats are getting colds. Her cat actually vomited and was listless as well. See a vet asap if you think your kitty has something serious going on and best wishes! Joan |

General symptoms are: sneezing, discharge from the eyes or nose, fever, lethargy, and loss of appetite, just like us. Depending on the virus that the cat has there can be other symptoms such as corneal ulcers, tongue ulceration, lameness, and swollen lymph nodes along with other not so common symptoms. Hope your baby is better.

My Persian was diagnosed with a URI. She just has lots of discharge from her eyes and both caugh and sneeze( both are mild). She was on Clavamox, but she is still the same. I told my breeder and I guess she is ust looking for an easy way out.I told her she was sneezing right after I got her back in Feb. of this year. She just assured me that she was ok and in good health. Well come to find out she was not in the best of health. She was too thin, and of coarse the breeder said she will do that. Gain weight then lose it. I have her on Iams muti cat and kitten food to help her weight. I am not sure what is going on with kitty. She eats and drinks and seems healthy otherwise. I have learned not to buy a cat that has any symptoms of a cold. However this cat did not at the time. I can not give her back and I just don't have the $ for all the stuff that I would like to do at the vet. I owe this lady $400 for a cat that is just not worth it.
My advise would be get it to the vet. If it is sick and was when you bought it, let the breeder or pet shop know. No one should have to pay for a sick cat and the bills from the vet. Maybe whoever your kitty came from was unaware of the problem and will help you. Unfortunately my breeder swears my cat was healthy.....not a chance. Be careful when dealing with petshops and breeders because they will say anything to make a sale. Keep in mind I am referring to backyard breeders. there are a lot of very good breeders out there and a lot on here as well. I made a bad choice, and now I am stuck with cats I can not get to the vet. |

If your concerned about your cat take kitty straight to the vets. My 19yr old Persian had a spell where he was having recurrent colds and he became poorly quite quickly. You have to be so careful because it can track down to their lungs in no time. Paula |
