I was wondering what would be the absolute best brush to use for Dr.Watson. I used my doxie's brush when I brushed him down last night. Its a rake for the under coat. My dachshund is a wire hair and always looks insane with his hair -do but it was the brush that the groomer recommened so he wouldn't get knots and mats ... So I thought that would be okay to use. It worked nice. I was just a little surprised that I only pulled out a little bit of hair. But he seems to be shedding a lot more today after he had that bath. So I bet when I brush him down tonight I will be in for it! lol

I don't know what this sudden want of pulling out the undercoat is all about. The crowning glory of a persian is it's coat. You want to remove dead or loose hair, but, you don't want to be "raking" out the undercoat.

A greyhound or greyhound style comb is best for maintaining the coat, removing dead or loose hair and managing matts. Bathing is also important to keep the cat from becoming greasey if they are prone to that and for conditioning the coat to make it look it's best.

I agree. Get yourself the greyhound style comb. There is no substitute!

I use the Greyhound combs on my cats. But when it gets too hot here, they dump their undercoat. If I can't remove all the hair dump quickly, it will felt faster than you can say it!

I believe there's a misconception about the undercoat rake; the undercoat rake I use, has nubs on it, nothing that cuts; it only removes SHEDDED hair, or nothing if its still attached by the hair follicle. That's why she didn't see anything come out!

BUT - that isn't getting the persian combed out properly; the top coat is going to mat, if it isn't groomed with a regular Greyhound comb!

Purrvette is easy to groom, but poor Cheshire - I swear she has 4 coats

Anyway, I'm just using the Greyhound comb on them now, as their coat's been coming in all nice and silky!

Okay I will have to run to the store and get a brush for him. Like I said I used the brush I had because this was my first time grooming him as I have only had him for 5 days now. And he was in desperate need!

Thanks!
