I have 5 Purebred CFA registered Persian kittens that were born July 10th. I have:

-either a classic tabby or a mackerel tabby (not sure yet) with blue eyes
-Blue smoke with blue eyes
-Blue with blue eyes
-Blue and white bicolored with blue eyes
-Black and white bicolored with violet eyes (turning green)

For more details, email Jen at

Just an FYI: All purebred Persians have Copper eyes (except for Silvers who have green eyes and solid Whites with blue eyes or odd eyes). Himi's have blue eyes. All Persian kittens have blue eyes that turn to green and then finally copper. What color are the parents? It's not possible to have a Tabby, Smoke, Solid and Bicolor all in one litter. Your "Smoke" is probably not a Smoke unless one of the parents is Smoke or Silver.

Tracy is right. Every Persian baby's eyes start out blue but will eventually turn copper, except Silvers/Goldens, OEWs, BEWs and Himmies. The one other exception would be odd-eyed and blue-eyed Bi-Colors & Calicos.

Silver is dominant
Agouti is dominant
Bi color is dominant

Mackerel tabby is incompletely dominant to Classic Tabby

Non-Silver is recessive
Non-Agouti is recessive
Solid is recessive

A Smoke is non-agouti & silver (Black smoke, Blue smoke, Tortie smoke, etc...as opposed to the Tabby versions)

So I think the kittens above are possible.

Lets say one parent is a Dominant Silver Mackerel tabby heterozygous for non-agouti and heterozygous for non-silver and heterozygous for Classic Tabby and heterozygous for dilute
and
The other parent is a Bi-color heterozygous for solid, either dilute or dilute carrier, either non-agouti or non-agouti carrier

When I say Dominant above I'm referring to "black" versus "blue dilute"
A dominant, non silvered tabby is called brown tabby in Persians even tho' it's a "black tabby" genotypically.

Then you could get
Dominant or Dilute Tabbies, w/or without white, silvered or non-silvered
Non-Agouti silvered (Smoke), w/or without white, dominant or dilute
Non-Agouti, non-silvered, w/or without white, dominant or dilute

That is why I said the Smoke probably wasn't a Smoke- UNLESS one of the parents was Smoke or Silver- actually it would have to be a Blue Silver/Blue Smoke and those are fairly uncommon.... :cat:

Tracy you are correct in that both parents would have to at LEAST carry blue - but neither would need to have exhibited the blue dliute.

I wasn't arguing ...hope you didn't take it that way.
I was just having fun with the color thing.
When I was a lad I did a project regarding cat color genes (sex-linked orange, calico, tortoiseshell, etc...) for a biology class (Gregor Mendel etal, haha) and ever since then cat coat colors have been an interest of mine.

One of my favorite combos would be a Silver Tabby, homozygous for all dominant genes bred to a Lilac Colorpoint, homozygous for all recessive genes. Then, breeding one of the resulting Silver Tabby kits back to a Lilac colorpoint one could end up with a gazillion different color kits. (Gazillion a hyperbole, I know).

Regards all:)

Biology was never my strength. I was a History major/Art History Minor- so the most Biology I got was for non-Majors. I guess I was so irratated at being misquoted, I made a mistake in my reply when I said one parent had to be Blue/Smoke or Blue/Silver Tabby. You are correct. Dilute colors CAN be carried- color charts are fun for some people, but I never use them. I learned my genetics from the book "Genetics for Cat Breeders" by Roy Robinson and from the direct expereince of other old time respected breeders- primarily Smoke Breeders- people like Pat Litchenburg wrote the book on Smoke genetics and what you see in the color charts doesn't always pan out in "real life". Maybe the breeder will come back and tell us what color the parents are if she knows that information and the mystery will be solved.

Y'all are speaking a foreign language here   I looked up the meaning of one word and got a whole bunch of other words I didn't understand so I'll just admit I'm "genetics challenged".
