All this talk about Libby and how special she is to me, I thought I should share a key story as to why this is true. Aside from being my first Grand, my first cat from Israel and Raya's first CFA Grand (Libby's breeder)....They say we learn something from all our pets...I learned and witnessed the most amazing event a few years ago.

Libby had her 2nd litter and they were about 10 weeks old. We used to say that Libby was such an amazing mother that she would even nurse a duck. She would nurse her babies until THEY decided they were done nursing...as much as 14 weeks of age. I don't step in and wean my babies unless there is a health reason that requires it. My theory is mother nature knows best....but Lib was the only mom I had allow them to nurse that long.

Miss Deja was over due with her first litter...day 72 I took her in for a c-section. This is WAY past the due date and I was starting to worry since she showed no signs of labor at all. We come home from the c-section and got her all settled in our bedroom in a tent I had set up on the floor. Libby is also in my bedroom with her babies as well and now has free reign of the room. Deja was sore and unsure where those "things" in her tent came from. I spent 3 solid hours trying to coax her into the nursing box...begging her...Please just lay with them...let them nurse. I took a kitten to her and tried to get it to latch but she just got up and walked away. It was so trying! I had just about given up and decided I needed to handfeed them myself if Deja was going to be this way. Suddenly, Libby walked over my lap and into the tent with Deja. I was sure she was going to lay down with those babies and just nurse them as this wouldn't be a bit unusual for Libby. But no....she stepped over the babies and went to where Deja was laying in the tent. She cleaned Deja's face and ears and they seemed to have this "conversation" if you will. I watched intently because this was a moment of obvious communication I had never seen before. When they were done "talking", Libby turned, stepped into the nursing box to exit the tent (so I thought) and then just stopped. She nudged all 3 babies with her nose, just enough to make them cry...and walked out of the tent. Literally, within seconds, Deja was up and in the nursing box allowing the babies to try and latch!! I had cold chills!!!!!! Most AMAZING thing I have have ever seen to this day!!!

This is just the sweetest story, ever. Brought tears to my eyes. She is a special lady cat, for sure.

I am totally tearing up...this is AMAZING.....I truly think cats are magical creatures.
