I can't believe I can be soooo dense at times. :oops:And I feel sooo bad that I may have caused Maggie some discomfort.

For several days, Maggie would nibble a bit but then would stop eating. Occassionally after syringing her, she would shudder and sit like a meatloaf. She never showed any signs of vomiting so I attributed this to pain of her eye removal and gave her some pain medication. Yesterday and today, she would eagerly eat food off the tip of the syringe without me doing anything. For lunch just now, she ate a few ml's short of 3 syringes all by her self! She also stopped shuddering and was wandering around right after feedings. Why?

It comes down to the timing of the oral antibiotics. Previously she would get her antibiotics as I was getting out of bed. Then I would feed the herd, drink my coffee, and feed her. The time was around 30+ minutes from antibiotics to food. For the past 2 days, I got up, fed the herd, fed Maggie, and then immediately gave her the antibiotics. The antibiotics were upsetting her stomach when they were administered without food. DAH! I knew that but for some reason I had a major attack of stupid!!!

Moral of the story: unless otherwise directed, give food and oral antibiotics very close together in time so a cat's stomach is not upset.

And now, I will go stand in the corner for the rest of the afternoon after I apologize again to Maggie.:(

Linda, you do NOT have to stand in the corner the rest of the afternoon. And because of your post. I will make sure I give Michelangelo his antibiotics with his breakfast. Thanks for the tip.
Maggie would much rather you have a catnap with her rather than stand in a corner. :D
Keep eating Maggie.
hugs
Paula

Linda, I am quite sure that if you go stand in the corner, Maggie will come sit with you to keep you company.

I still feel bad that I hadn't thought about the timing of the antibiotics since she had problems before with the clavamox. Some cats can handle it fine, and others like Maggie get upset tummies. If this post can help Michelangelo and other kitties, then I'm more than happy to share my embarrassment. :P

As for eating, she ate 3.5 syringes for supper. :!:All I did was fill the syringe, hold it up, and slowly squeeze the food out. She just ate it right off the tip!

Oops, Yep you need to give antibiotics with food in the tummy, most of the time, there are those that have to be given on an empty tummy so ask. Linda, I am sure she will forgive you. :cat:

For those that don't know you have to have about 2 hrs between pharmaceuticals (drugs) and supplements or ithey can interefere with each other.
