KERA radio here in Dallas aired this VERY short piece today about the Arboretum volunteers. I think most of you know they interviewed 4 of us. Well, only two made the cut (such as it is) and there are only two quotes from each of us. I think our Volunteer Coordinator thought it would be a much longer piece - it's only 2 1/2 minutes. But if you want to hear my drawl (Lord, I talk slooooooow ) you can click the button and hear me. I'm at the beginning. (Or you can just read it and imagine I don't sound quite so Southern. )

I've been watching for this interview Tomi - was great to hear this.. and very interesting too!
Kudos to you and all the volunteers for this wonderful work you do - a real labour of love no doubt.
I really love your sweet southern drawl!
Funny too how a written name can be interpreted in a different way than pronounced.
Took me a long time to get Birgit's name right. BirGEET. ( I hope I've got it
And all this time I've been reading your name as "TOH-mi. No idea why....
Was surprised when the interviewer said it differently.

I never heard of Chihuly before you educated us about his work. Don't know if it would last here through our winters, though. That's wonderful work you do, sharing your enthusiasm with visitors. I love your drawl. You should hear my Noo Yawk accent. I don't think I have one any more, but my friends in Canada tell me I still got it! [People have guessed it was a Maritime accent, MaryD and Joan! ]

My 7th grade science teacher used to insist on calling me TOH-mi. My dad's name was Thomas and I am named after him. It's just spelled Tomi instead of Tommi. (unless you are Pat, since she refuses to spell it any other way. )
