I learned a terrible lesson today. Kitties aren't too bright. LOL At least mine aren't.
I'm having to shave a few kitties naked because they were laying against a space heater on high. I didn't think anything of it until I smelled something burning. Yet, none of them felt it was too hot to walk away from it either. I have a few kitties with burnt areas on their coats now. Please be careful of your space heaters. It never crossed my mind that it would cause any damage to any of my cats. No one was injured or harmed. Their coats on the other hand are coming off now.

Oh glad it was not worse!!! Yeah I hate heaters...I am really careful about anything like that since my families house burned down when I was in 10th grade. My husband can be so careless and I am always on his case about leaving candles burning on tables and leaving the room...especially with the cats around.

And not to mention the carbon monoxide that they throw off.
Most homes have alarms now, but just in case you haven't
got one, it's a good investment.

I do not like space heaters at all, they scare me. I need to do some serious cat shaving as well, got all behind with all of them what with Christmas and having to move our business.

They can be rather dense at times, can't they, LOL. I'm glad to hear no kitty or human was injured or harmed and the only "damage" done was a few naked kitties. Personally, I have never trusted space heaters and refuse to have them in my home. My Persians & Himmies are quite content in sitting by (or sometimes on) the heating vents during the cold winter months.

I work in fire protection and would like to confirm that a lot of fires are caused by space heaters and candles. We all need to keep in mind that our fur babies are probably not going to be able to safely get out of the house if it does catch on fire. I've been to lots of fires where the occupants cats did not make it - very sad. THE BEST WAY TO PROTECT OUR CATS IS TO PREVENT THE FIRE FROM STARTING, i.e. be care with all ignition sources!

Very good advice, Joe!!! I worry so much about my gas pilot lights on my stove. I talk to my boys daily about walking across the stove but they just don't listen!
