Hi
My persian has hypertention and has been given iston (an eighth of a tablet) to help but after he has been on it for a few days he becomes bunged up and cant goto the toilet, the vet has now given me other medication to try called benazecare but im getting the same problem.

Just wondered if anyone else is having or has heard of a similar problem, getting to the point where i think the vet is running out of ideas...

Thanks
Jason

no, but if he is having a hard time going, try some of the hairball treatments, that helps them go. also more water in his diet, dry food as well as wet, when Bluie has a problem, I give her a very small amt of milk with sugar in it, like a tablespoon of milk, milk and sugar help the bowels to move. good luck :paw:

Here are some other suggestions that might help. I strongly recomend the pumpkin -- you can mix this with his canned food...add a tiny bit of water...and it should help to resolve the issue.

Good luck!

Regardless of the cause, these solutions should help, they have a laxative effect. Good luck.

Just like in humans that have to take various medications constipation can be a side effect and one has to use something then to counteract it either thru dietary measures and also maybe something else like stool softener and /or laxative. What's being recommended to you are things to use because the medication may have that constipating effect. Try them and see if it helps.

I agree with all the posts above. The pumpkin will help quite a bit. If you can't find pumpkin, I use winter squash baby food.

Not all hypertension medication causes constipation. I had a cat on something and it never interfered with her digestion or bowel movements. I can't recall the name of it, but I'll post it once I get home and can look in my records. You might want to ask the vet to change the medication.

Let me firstly say thank-you to all the above posters advising on constipation remedies, i really do appriciate them all, every one!

I was hoping maybe someone had some experiance with hypertension, its meds etc, my vet is now going to try and source a third medication which im not so sure will exist so at the moment is it a constipated cat or no meds for the hypertension?

He can be so bad i can feel the mass at his rear but just wont come out, ive have chosen to stop the meds at the moment...

Thanks again for the replies and anymore to come...
