i have a 4 year old persian cat, with a lump in his intestine, he has had 2 open surgery biopsies, 7 ultrasound scans, 20 weeks of antibiotics (marbocyl, noraclav & flagyly) he is now on steroids and flagyl, but he is still poorly and the vet isn't sure what is wrong with him, the symptons are as follows: weight loss, vacant look seems miles away & hard to get his attention sometimes & doesn't go to the loo very often, he has been like this since february 2010 and i am desperate to get him well again if anybody can help i would be very grateful. thanks :?::?::?::cat:

I'm sorry... I sure don't know. I'm very sad that your baby is feeling poorly.

Sonny, I'm sure at this point you have gotten a second vet opinion. I'm not sure what advice we could offer other than moral support. :flower:

How's his bloodwork?

I have two suggestions. First, if you haven't already, he needs to go to a second vet. I can't imagine one vet ordering so many ultrasounds and 2 biopsies, but I suppose it would be possible. So, a second opinion is a must.

Second, try to find a vet that practices either homeopathy or holistic medicine. If your cats has been to traditional vets with this much testing and they can't help, now is the time to try something outside tradition. Homeopathy, herbalism, acupunture, etc. -- while not accepted by all, each mode does work and one may help in this case.

Good luck!

this is sad. When you say lump do you mean a small tumor. I may be wrong but I feel they have over tested him to make money. Usually they may do a scope and biopsy if that is what you want. This can tell them if it is a cancer. My cat Bear , was found to have intestinal cancer at 11 years old. She most likely had had it since she was 10. When they xrayed her bowels it should the bowel to be rigid with a small lump. My vet said allergies could cause this or cancer. She gave me the option to put Bear through exploratory surgery, I asked if it was cancer would this cure her. She said no, but might make me feel better if I knew for sure. John and I talked about it and opted not to put her through all the tests and surgeries, if it was cancer then we would treat her as her symtoms became obvious to us. We wanted her to have a quality life . They told us she could live 4 mo or even a year . Just about a year later we had to let her to to rainbow bridge. She had bad days and good days. I made sure to get her allergy free foods, no food coloring or chemicals.. most dry foods would upset her tummy same with her wet food. no coloring in it. Very little fat products.. I made sure she had a lot of water and fluids.. in the end I treated her pain, when it got bad we made the hard decison. I am not sure what your kitty has, but steroids used in large amts. can cause some of the problems you are talking about. Maybe a second of opinon is needed. Prayers and good wishes.. pat
