I received this update from Cherl-Anne that I thought I would share with the group.

Dear Joe,

This email is being sent to all who have given so magnanimously on the appeal for Jana and Lenka, the Croatian cats incoming from Greece.

Please accept my sincere apologies that these days I do not get to write thank you’s to everyone on a personal level as soon as you have donated, but ill health prevents me doing so; it is a daily struggle with non-working joints in my hands so writing an email like this can take a long time, and by the time I have updated the site I am usually ‘all done’ for the day!

But I am always staggered by the unusual responsiveness of the overseas donors to our appeals once news reaches the forums, so big thanks so all of you for both the speed and the size of donations as it has allowed me the certainty that we can save Lenka especially; it is only today, since getting a Greek speaker involved, that I learn she was under review for euthanasia but instead, she is now in surgery to address her dental and jaw issues, and she seems to be healthy otherwise although both cats are below weight.

Keeping Jana and Lenka at the Greek rescue until the formalities for export to the UK are complete, is apparently not a problem. The hurry was in knowing could we take them, could we fund the relocation, and could we fund the veterinary bills for Lenka and for the vaccines and micro-chipping required for the transfer. Thanks to you all I have been able to say yes. It seems to be a very helpful small rescue we are dealing with in Athens and they primarily take in stray dogs, so Persian cats are something of an issue for them as they neither have appropriate accommodation nor expertise on the matter of pedigree felines, but I am glad they were able to take them in.

Meanwhile, Lilly-Lou (chinchilla) who was supported by you all for a very long time is doing very well in her new home. She still has the problems of the chronic diarrhoea but she is now living a normal life within a normal and very loving household, and I have photos of her if anyone wishes to request these. I am unsure how the new owners manage her diarrhoea but they clearly do, and I always supposed that the issue was made worse by the fact that Lilly became very stressed when in the confines of her own room at my home, so the fact they can give her free access to the whole house has invariably made the diarrhoea a lot more stable.

The burned kitty we ran an appeal for, sadly was unable to be saved – he was probably just too weak for the anaesthesia – but he received prompt treatment thanks to supporters, ad he would have suffered minimally – the important thing is that he had a good chance, and was given all the help needed thanks to you all.

If anyone writes to me personally, please remember I love and appreciate your emails but cannot always reply because of ill health – I amass an email backlog of around 200 messages a day! I have had kind offers of email help but as I would need to email people the updates in order for them to then update everyone else/the website - it doesn’t really work!  I have an urgent rheumatology appointment on 14th May to look at the hands issue but I know that whatever it is, is here to stay!!

Warmest regards

Thank you for posting this!

Among our generous members we have generated 270 pounds plus 270 from me makes 540. There are other donors as well so yes, we will make it!!!!!!!!!!

At present I am 70 short with my matching but I have sent some provisions to my paypal account and it will be there as soon as possible.

Thank you again everyone

I still do not discard travelling to Athens and picking them up myself, as you know I have a travel bug in me but that depends on when they are ready to go.

Hug your furkids

Birgit

What a fantastic update Joe...thank you so much for posting this. Unfortunatly I was unable to donate this time and I am so sorry for that but my own cats' medical bills are taking presidence at the moment -- I'm sure you all can understand. Still I have been following these stories and have donated when I am able.

Birgit -- how fantastic if you are able to go and get these two babies!!!
