Sometimes they have kitten coats which are very soft and then as they grow older its not as soft. But this is a good question for people who show their cats which I don't/

I heard that a little Salmon oil spritzed on they're food helps. I feed my cats Royal Canin and when I got Yogi his coat was not very soft at all but I find a good quality food and a fine tooth metal comb for grooming has done wonders for his coat it is so soft and silky its like he took his old coat off and put a new one on.I use 2 different combs on him one to gt the undercoat and then the other to make the coat fluffy and soft this is a picture of the 2 combs I use the fine tooth comb really makes the coat fluff up.

Thanks mom
there is no pic
Im feeding royal canine and he gets combed every day,he has a soft coat.
But i want to get the silky affect.
i will try and explain it better im not very good at it but will try
When i got him his hair was so silky and if you were holding him he could easily slip out your arms the hair was so silky
this is what i want to try and get when i groom him,
I just dont know what products to use to get this,I know he is only a pet but i would like to have his coat nice

Those sound like my words. A groomer commented that my Humphrey's fur felt dry. I was feeding him a Royal Canin prescription food at the time and grooming him with a greyhound comb. I don't bathe my cats and I am sure there are shampooing and conditioning products for cats that do a good job of making their fur silky, but when I switched to a raw diet, it was suggested I add a spritz of salmon oil (I believe some people use olive oil). If you check the ingredients in your wet catfood, you will probably find salmon oil in it. It has nutritional advantages. What I did not expect was the silkiness it produced in both my cats' fur. Your hand literally glides over their fur.

those combs shuld be fine maybe he just needs a supplement like the salmon oil I don't know. Do you groom him daily I know I do Yogi twice a day because his coat is so so thick and if I don't get all the loose hair out it stats to matt into the rest of his coat so I make sure most of the loose hair is gone from his coat when I comb him. Seems to keep his coat cleaner for longer as well
