When my Oreo was born he was definately a tuxedo cat with dark pure black and white- in recent months though I have noticed when grooming him that in his black areas- the undercoat now appears to be more of a dark smoky gray than black- is he really a black and white bi color( as his CFA papers state) or something else? Not that it really matters but I am curious.

Do you happen to know both of his parents' colors? Unless one of his parents is a smoke, he's a black & white bi-color. Solid blacks and sometimes black bi-colors occasionally get that "smokey" undercoat.

There are certainly more qualified members here to answer you but could it be his undercoat??

I think "tuxedo" is not an official coloration for show purposes. All "tuxedo" cats would have to be black and white bi-colors. Could it be his black is fading due to exposure to sunshine?

His top coat is still black and no he is an indoor kitty so not too much sunshine. His pop was cream and momma is a calico. I can't seem to get pictures on this web site- if someone wants to pm me I can send pics to your email and perhaps you can post them for me?

With a cream father and a calico mother, there is no question that he is a black & white bi-color.

What a beautiful kitten. I had wanted a chocolate but the few breeders I found in So Cal wanted $3-4,000.00 for a kitten and that was out of my reach. I will have one someday or perhaps a chocolate bi color?
