I had a major bout of laziness yesterday and didn't want to get up early to go to the grocery store to buy meat for the kitties, so the night before, I got out a chub of CountryPets Naturals Cat Food.

This is a grainfree food, with ground meat and bone. I had the lamb and chicken variety. It's not cooked like canned food is -- the label says it's only pasteurized, which means ~80C for 10 minutes. It comes frozen in 1.5lb chubs for about $7.00 -- not great but not bad either. Unfortunately, for cats it only comes in lamb/chicken, but there are 5 flavors for dogs. (Since the dog food is grainfree and all meat, I might just buy a couple for an occassional meal -- I can't imagine the nutritional analysis is basically the same except for taurine.)

The kitties LOVE it. Everyone ate it with gusto and I noticed no poo problems over night. Spencer growled through eating his. (Spencer translation -- growling while eating = extra yummy!)

I do believe that I have bought this for the dogs before...gave it to them as a treat and they loved it. I have never tried it for the cats. Good to know. : )

I love love love that Spencer growls while eating if he really loves it. How cute. My pet store just started selling this, I may have to pick some up :) I do the Stella and Chewy's raw on top of the dry every day.

Snugs to the herd. :flower:

It probably would be better than kibble but not as good as totally raw. The thing is, you don't know what causes his poo problems, so whether this sets that off or not is unknown until you try it.

The other problem to me is that since he has IBS/colitis, when you switch foods, that upsets his tummy to some degree. If he can eat the vet food with pumpkin and have no poo problems, then don't change the food. Give it 2-3 days and then if it is still causing problems, try the CountryPets food.
