HUGS HUGS HUGS to you and the babies

Thanks Kira. Where do I find powdered lysine? Do you think I could just mix it in with a spoonful of chicken baby food? I don't feed canned food, just the dry stuff.

MarLo, I see the vet again tomorrow and will ask about the bactroban. Thanks!

I am keeping Emily in my thoughts and prayers, and one of my friends has a cat with herpes and swears by the lysine. She
uses the powder in Madison's food. She gets the L-Lysine from Walgreens in regular vitamin section and uses a pill crusher
to turn it into powder. She feeds about 1/2 a pill about once a week, but I would ask a vet. I really hope this helps. She mixes this with Madison's Fancy Feast and there doesn't seem to be any taste she objects to. I called her and she said it is sometimes easier to find and the pills are surprisingly large. Her vet at the vet hospital told her about the L-Lysine.
Please Emily get better soon. Heal and be Happy
Gail

I buy it for $17 (it lasts about six months) at Vitamin Cottage. Or whole foods... just make sure you get pure lysine with nothing else. And absolutely baby food will work.

I've done the same as Kira mixing the Lysine in with the food for Winston and Alaska per recommendation of the Vet for their eyes. I don't know if the Vet will go along with the nasal form of bactraban for Emily tho I think it could help if there is a herpetic viral infection in her nares or even just with the scabbing (better than vaseline). Then again I think in terms of human medicine.

If she would go along with the nasal application form of bactroban just know I got an override on this at the pharmacy as it's very very expensive. I mean i was quoted something like $700 cash pay for a 2 week supply and got the override for it with my insurance and paid $35 for two week supply!!!!! I would have used regular bactroban but it says on the directions not to use in eyes or nose (it's really cheap)!

Good luck to you with Emily and I hope she'll soon be doing purrfectly ;)

Kira, how much lysine do you add? And to how much food?

BTW, little Emily is drinking and eating and seems to be feeling a little better today. However, that one nostril is still swollen shut. The swelling seems a bit less. I think once that nostril opens up, she will become a whole 'nuther kitty. My hubby has a call into the vet who did the surgery, asking if there is a chance that the nostril could develop scar tissue.

Perhaps you can ask for an anti-inflammatory? I nkow cats and dogs are very sensitive to those, but poor baby Emily :(

I would give her 1000mg to start. That is a dose that is helpful during flare ups. It isn't going to hurt her in the least. I give PUffy and Chunk 500mg each daily, but we started at 1000mg a day (500mg in the morning, 500mg at night...)

this is what I use...

I would love to try that but no idea how to get it into Smush. She absolutely refuses to try any canned food.

Try mixing it in baby food. I guarantee you she'll eat baby food. Put a little on her nose. She just doesn't like the smell... works with Puffy every time.

When we had the girls done my vet said that there are pros and cons to both scalpel and laser surgery. One of the cons for laser is that basically it is like a burn so may scab and swell more, maybe that is what is going on. At least that is what info the surgeons gave us. Hope it is clearing up, sounds like she is doing better, which is good.

Dan, be sure and get either the chicken or turkey babyfood and also, be sure there is nothing else in it except chicken and chicken broth. I use the Beechnut variety. I've never known a kitty who didn't love the stuff. Mine actually wait around in the mid-afternoon and bug me to give them a spoonful. I figure it is a good and nutritious treat for them.

Kira, thank you!
