Emory is in Knoxville, TN, but he can be driven up to a day's drive away for the right home.
About 3 years ago I adopted a purebred himalayan persian cat. He is about 6 years old now.
At the time, I had one dog and a few other cats. My one dog, Charley, was very sick, and he was not long for this world. I had adopted him with heartworm disease and it ended up that he did not make it through the treatment. Emory seemed to get along fine with Charley before he died. As I was a volunteer with a dog rescue and a
cat rescue, I needed a cat who would get along with Dogs and Cats.
After Charley passed away, I adopted a cat-friendly dog named Gracie. Emory seemed to get along with Gracie. I also fostered an old dog named McKinley. We ended up keeping McKinley. Both dogs are geriatric now and have multiple health problems. Since adopting Emory, he has become more and more hostile towards the dogs. He urinates on the dogs while they sleep. He also is absolutely miserable. He bats at the dogs as they walk by, and he urinates on their bedding, he hisses at them. I thought that perhaps he was stressed out by animals in general, so when, and as, our other pets passed away, we did not adopt new pets, nor did we continue to foster cats. Three cats have passed away and now we have two dogs, Emory and one other cat running in the house together (my dogs are indoor dogs). He gets along fine with the other cat. He still uses the litterboxes. The subtraction of the other cats (as they passed away over time) has not helped him. We no longer foster dogs either. We don't even overnight dogs.
We have tried more litterboxes, many types of litter, cat attract litter, feliway plug ins, calming collars, prozac (for Emory - vodka for me), separating Emory from the dogs, taking him on walks, many, many, many trips to the vet, etc.
If you name it, we have tried it. Since the issue is not with our dogs, since there are two dogs, since when Emory is upset, he also takes his grumpiness out on our other cat and that is starting to cause some concern as well, and since the dogs are very old, and since we help run the dog rescue and would be fostering the dogs until
adoption even if we did choose to surrender the dogs (which could take a year or longer due to their age and medical problems), we will not be surrendering the dogs.
Emory is fully up to date on all of his vet work. He had a dental and dental work last year. The vet gave him a green light on his teeth. He has been recently groomed. He is a purebred doll face blue Lynx Point Himalayan Persian and is declawed in front (he came to me that way). He has turquoise Blue Eyes that are big and round. He is very friendly towards all humans and greets strangers at the door. He sleeps at the foot of my bed. He does try to door-dart, but I think that is more a function of him hating it here, than anything else.
He never urinates on my bed or couch or things - just the dogs and their things and he does use the litterbox otherwise. He is vocal, but not too vocal unless he has been stepped on by a dog - then he meows loudly. He also meows loudly when the dogs go out and I don't let him out (he is declawed and Persian - he is indoor only!) His
bloodwork was run during the past year and it was good. He is about 6 years old. He is in good health per the vet.
I do not know who his breeder was. I adopted him from a rescue. I contacted the rescue, but they said they were full and could not take him back. They said I could rehome him.
Emory is located in Knoxville, TN. I am willing to drive within a day of Knoxville for the right home.
He is a beautiful cat with a wonderful disposition - he just needs a home with no dogs and probably no toddlers (I think the same problem would occur with toddlers as dogs since toddlers and dogs are both innocent and full of energy) and I truly think he'd do wonderfully and make someone a best friend. He even comes when called.
Here are a couple pics of Emory - one with his Summer haircut and a couple with full coat. He always lays upside down or in a Superman pose - he's goofy when he's happy. Right now, he's in between his summer cut and winter coat - he's growing it out.
