Is it possible for there to be a mix between an Exotic Shorthair & a Persian?
I know that sounds silly as an exotic shorthair is a shorthaired Persian, right? ugh.

Reason I ask is this:
Where Persia was rescued from, there were 40+ cats - Persians & Exotic Shorthairs - they were at a breeders
house but I am not sure what she really bred for.

Persia was rescued by MeoowsRezQ who also took in 2 Exotic shorthairs, which Persia's foster mom ended up
adopting one of them. Anyway, I have noticed that Persia's fur is MUCH different than Chloes, the texture,
fullness, length, etc. Could it be possible that Persia is actually some kind of mix of some sort?? Why does
Persia's fur not get to be anything like any of the Persian's I see (on here and such?) Even her tail is different.
Chloe is fluffy and very hairy! Hope this makes sense and someone can give their advice.

thanks

Amy, Abby has papers and her hair is nothing like Talia, Purcy or Annabelle. Her fur is dense and shorter. I have wondered the same thing. I am hoping after the seasons change that there will be a change in her fur. I rarely have to brush her and there has never been a matt of any kind in her fur.

Ok...I'm going to "try" to answer this question but high level. Exotics are a cross of an American Shorthair and the Persian. Today Persians are used as an outcross to maintain type and genetic soundness of the breed. So some exotics that have a short coat will carry a copy of the recessive longhair gene meaning they can produce longhairs that appear to be Persians but are actually exotics. It is my opinion that a cat with one parent who is a Persian and one parent who is a zot...is simply a longhair exotic. In CFA, an exotic, with long or short hair, will carry a 7000 number identifying that they a parent or ansester that was a zot. So by my standards there really is not a "mix" of the breeds...but a new breed -- the "Zot".

Hope that helps some.

**sorry had to edit cause I realized I said it wrong...shorthairs can have a copy of the longhair gene is what I meant.

Persia actually has CURLY hair! haha on her belly. Ill get a picture later.
But her tail hair won't grow any more. It's super thin and spare.
When her fur grows in the fullest it looks weird, no fluffliness whatsoever.

I love her fur the way it is, because she doesn't shed (well BARELY), compared
to sheddy-mcshedderson Chloe ;) She has angora like fur, it is so soft!
I just wonder if she is mixed with something else or if inbred and it messed
up her genetics or something ?? hmm

Doubt it -- alot of work goes into keeping belly, butt and chest hair straight! So trust me it is normal! :?

LOL, even Purcy's ruff looks like he has had a spiral perm in it...unless of course I always comb it.

So in your opinion, what do you think Persia is? Just a "special" kitty ;)
Could is be possible that Persia had a Persian parent & a Zot parent?
Could she possibly be a longhaired exotic -and can you tell just by looking at her??
Could she be a ZOT? :D

My two persians, as much as they look alike have totally different coats. Nanners' fur is think and straight on her chest...its a lot harder when it comes time for her lion cut because of the thickness. The back of her neck the hair is just so poofy its incredible.

Muffins on the other hand has thinner hair, its super easy to do her lion cut...and her chest fur also does the curly thing you talked about with persia. Her belly hair also is curly. I notice it the most when her hair is growing back in after the lion cut and I love how cute it looks on her chest. She does not matt as easily as Nanners either.

Well, my Phoebe isn't exactly as fluffy and long haired as Piper. I think that Persians can have different hair/fur textures just like people as in thick/fine, long/shorter, etc.

Amy, without seeing her pedigree, it would be impossible to tell just by looking at her.
She could very well be "pure" persian, but just never gets those great coats...or she
could very well be a longhair exotic.
Without her papers it would be impossible to tell.

What ever she is..persian or long hair zot, she certainly is a cutie!
