Yes, I have 2 ( evidently my husband didn't recall buying both!). I don't use them since it takes out the undercoat. I show my cats and even the ones I dont I want to look fluffy.

I have one and it really takes off the fur. My problem is that I bought the most narrow one thinking I'd just do around his face. I wish I had the larger one. Dakota isn't fond of it for some reason but let's me use it.

Glad I found your post here.

This may sound naive, but I comb (uneven teeth) Sasha twice daily and find only slightly matted parts are under the belly and front legs which I comb out and sometimes clip (1/2" at most) if he gets too fussy about the tugging. I remove about a thumb's length and thickness of fur each time.

I was considering buying the large Furminator, but I don't think it necessary to remove the undercoat (definitely not a show cat, but my champion, anyway). I assume it's there for a reason and compare it to down on a duck. Opinion?

Would you suggest it for use on non-show cats? He's never coughed up a hairball and only during the spring shed do I find any in his stool. His biggest hair problem is finding MY hair (down to my waist) occasionally in his stool. I meticulously pick up my hair, but every now and then, I obviously miss one and that bothers me more than his fur as it is so darn long.

hmm.. i feel that it is not as great as advertised..

in myjoey's case, it was the top coat that is removed, not the mats in the undercoat

You never use a furminator on a matted coat. Always comb all tangles and matts out first. The package mine came in plainly states that.
If you comb Sasha that often I really don't see the need for it - unless you just want a less fluffy cat.
