The second picture is more like the markings on this kitten. I should have stated I've had persians for a long time and the Calico or Tortie & White is one of my favourites, mainly due to fond memories of a particular cat I had a number of years ago.

The markings are roughly 50% white and quite clearly defined patches of red and black.

I will get a photo as soon as I have chance. Unfortunately my assessment at this stage is that I have nothing more than a pet quality kitten.

Still no sign of any colour on number 3, which still makes me think cream point at this stage!

Tortoiseshell males are indeed exceedingly rare and when they do ocurr are invariably sterile (being most likely an xxy, rather than the normal xx female or xy male.) This explains the male tortoiseshell - although it is more likely you're mistaken about the gender.

The "white" part is a bit trickier because solid (with no white) is recessive, therefore; two recessive solids shouldn't throw a "bicolor" (with white). Perhaps one of the parents is actually a "super-low white" bicolor (check for tiny white lockets on the lower belly and the throat). Sometimes cats that have a bicolor genotype have a phenotype (appearance) of being solid.

The mother of the queen was red with absolutely no white.

The red girl was from a cream male and red & white female (the only bi colour gene source in the immediate pedigree)

The father is the black tom carrying cp, dilute & choc.

No white anywhere in either of the parents!

Of course the thought of one parent being an extremely low-white bi-color did cross my mind but I'm certain alexll would have noticed even the tiniest white spot on either parent cat.

Well, it does sound like you have a calico. How this is possible with two solid parents is beyond me. ;)

Would it be possible for you to post pics of both parents along with the kitten's? :)

I agree, I would absolutely love to see pictures of your believed to be male calico, even if he is pet quality! I bet he's adorable.
