I am going to order a Greyhound comb over the internet. I see different size tines. What should I be ordering for a Persian?
Thanks in advance.
1.35 " tines
1.24 " tines
Two tone?
I am confused.

I just watched a few Persian grooming videos online. I see everyone uses something different.
I see I am far too soft-touched for grooming. I will figure this out one of these days..... :paw:

I don't know what size greyhound comb you need because I stopped using mine. For some reason, probably operator error  , I found I was combing the top layers while the lower layers were matting up. I got one of those shedding? combs (two lengths of teeth alternating) and am much, much happier.

I'm also like you discovering that one needs to be gentle but aggressive. Isabel is my first purebred Persian, so she gets to be the guinea pig for grooming. With my half-Persians, I've never had these problems. :?

What LindaH wrote!!!!

My poor boys needed a lion cut two months after they had been declared mat-free by a groomer. You have to be somewhat aggressive to make sure you get down to the undercoat where all the matting takes place. At least that was my experience. So far so good with the type of comb LindaH described. The tines on mine rotate with use. I like the shedding brush the groomer used in that video. Whatever works for you and the kitty, in any case.

Well, I am feeling a bit like a failure with Michelangelo. I get one matt out and discover another.

He is sadly starting to look like a chemotherapy kitty, with missing tufts of fur, especially behind the ears and under in his pits.

So as cute as he is, and as tiny as he is, I will be getting further down to the undercoat in future....

I guess I was hoping for a miracle comb, but I see it is knowledge and effort.

Thanks ladies,
This Persian didn't come with instructions. That is how I found you! :flower:

Rotating teeth?! I wonder if that works better?

Well, I'll join you in the failure section. I had Isabel nearly mat free and then Maggie/Maya came along and Isabel didn't get thoroughly groomed. While her front half looks fine, her butt is... let's just say not photogenic at the moment. But I am working on it, 2-3 mats a day, and eventually she'll be back to fuzzy. Remember the classic say, "Mats weren't built in a day" so don't expect them out in a day either. ;)

I'm not sure any cat comes with instructions!

I have one of those combs with the rotating teeth, got it about 40 years ago with my first persian, and I hate it, hate it...a useless piece of crap as far as I am concerned

I do love my Greyhound...I know there are different sizes..the one I have is about 11 inches long I think, has close together teeth on one end and further apart teeth on the other end...

I do have another smaller steel comb that I keep at the other end of the house just for quick little combs...like if she comes out of the litter box with crap on her rear end, or if she needs a quick comb under her chin and neck area.

And I have another even smaller steel comb that would almost be the size of the teeth of a comb to take fleas out, but not quite that close together...it works nicely on her face area.....these last two steel combs are not Greyhounds, just something I picked up at different pet stores along the way...and actually were my grooming combs before I discovered GREYHOUND!! :D :xmas: :D

Joan

NO WAY, NO HOW would I let that woman anywhere around my cat!! She took every bit of under coat out - that's what makes them fluffy. She also used the same gauze on both eyes - if the cat had an eye infection she would have spread it. You don't have to be that rough with them either. If I saw someone hanging my cat by the scruff like that I would probably wring their necks. Just be patient and work with the cat - try parting the coat so you can get down to the skin - sort of like your hairdresser sections your hair when it is cut. Get a greyhound comb with the longest tines you can find. Jade River General Store has a good one for around $28.00.

I couldn't agree more Lynda!
Dolly would never stand for that roughness.
And really, there is no need to be that rough with them.
Heck, I won;t even clean the ears with the same pad, let alone the eyes....
I would hate to transfer anything from one side to the other, if there should be
something there...

I can't believe how well this cat in the video took this manhandling..

Joan
