My greyhound has the longest tines and is medium-coarse rather than medium-fine since Sasha has a very cottony coat. It is the only thing that works for her.

OK, I am convinced. I will be placing my order online.
One Greyhound comb, long tines.

Okay, Joan, how much stock do you have in the greyhound comb company?

That is exactly the one I have. I bought it from the same place at a show when I met Tracy!

I need to order another - the cats hid mne! i can't find it anywhere and using a knock off just isn't the same. I find it tires my hands since the balance isn't there like with the greyhound.

I had to go measure mine after Tracy posted, and that is exactly
the same one as mine.
I was lucky, I had gone into a small local pet store looking for one,
nothing on the shelves, so I asked the manager if they had anything
similar to a Greyhound comb.
He reaches under the counter and says, we have the Original Greyhound made in Belgium!!
I didn't hesitate to buy it...at that time it was $30+ Canadian.
I think I have had it for over 15 years now.

Joan

Paula: There are all sorts of good combs...some great expensive ones and some great cheap ones
example of a good cheap one: http://www.petedge.com/product/Grooming ... /46284.uts
IMO the key to keeping the cat knot-free and mat-free isn't the COMBING -it's the BATHING.
Bathe at least once a week. If the cat is kept very clean it won't mat.
While combing during the week, keep the comb teeth perpendicular to the cat and use short strokes
Your cat should not be matting -especially at this time of year-and you should be removing VERY little hair. The idea is to leave as much clean, knot free hair on the cat as possible.
BTW: NEVER pull if the comb hits resistance - instead lift the comb turn it and use it like "pick". The cat in this video looks dirty to me but this woman shows how to use the comb like a pick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5VT0k6F ... re=related
Personally, I don't use such a huge comb because my cat is small. Also, I would never use a slicker as this lady uses.
