Hi there:-) My name is Sue, and I'm a new Himalayan breeder and exhibitor in southern California. I think I joined this site a while back as it looks familiar to me, or maybe I just read from it, but then a friend kept talking about it, and I came back and registered properly.
I have only been showing for about a year and a half, but have been very actively showing, I think I'm up to 25 shows now? I am four points away from my first grand, and wow, I have learned so much along the way! The most profound thing I have learned is that I still have sooo much to learn! It seems so simple in the beginning, learn how to groom, internalize the breed standard, show up with a good cat, go home with rosettes.... But it doesn't work that way at all! There is so much nuance and subtlety that goes into grooming, showing, judging, and breeding! So I'm just a sponge right now, learning all that I can and doing my best to make the people who believe in me proud of me:-)
I have been blessed with great friends and a wonderful and supportive family, and I'm really enjoying all of it. I've had some hard times along the way, ran into unscrupulous and unkind people, but I chose to focus on the good people, on the cats that I love, and on my goals. I am raising my first litter right now, though it was not my breeding, and I'm really loving these little guys! One of them I will be keeping, hopefully for show, and I've started carting her out on the town with me to get her used to traveling, noise, all kinds of people, and places, and hopefully that will help to ease her into the show hall and all the activity there as if she were born there;-) I have three kids, and I homeschool, so there is always noise and activity in my home. They will be some very well socialized kittens when we are ready to let them go:-D
I have another litter due.... today, the next day, or Friday, so I'm on kitten watch. I have a show on Saturday, so I'm hoping she delivers before then so that I can go!
