Hello, everyone! I have been looking for resources for information on persians and I am hoping that this will be a good start. I have a shaded golden female and a tortieshell DLH and a blue/white DLH. I also have 2 Great Danes that are on a prey model raw diet and are treat homeopathically as much as I am able to. I would like to switch the cats over to eating raw, but I'm sure most of you know that cats can be a bit particular about their food. :)
I would really like to get in contact w/ others who feed raw and/or don't vaccinate. Where I live in Alaska, the incidence of cat diseases that are vaccinated for is practically nil, but, of course, the vets keep pushing the vaccines.
Thanks for letting me join.

Hi, Traci! Welcome to the gang :flower:

Boy, have you come to the right place! While I don't feed raw, we have a number of members who do and I'm sure they will be happy to help you. Just hang on and they'll be posting in no time. We have members from all over the world. This site is a wonderful source of information.

You live in a beautiful place. We've made several trips to Alaska and it is never enough. And let me by the first to tell you that we LOVE to see pictures of you kitties here, so get ready for the begging to start

Tomi

Hi Traci and welcome, I don't feed raw either, but many do. There are also many who feel the same as you do about vaccines and homeopathics .

Hi Traci and welcome to the group!

Well, I'm one of the people who feed their cats raw food, use various alternative medicines, and don't vaccinate. I'd be happy to talk about any of it. :D (What? Me? Talk about food??? ) So, if you have questions or want to discuss the raw food, etc, just post in the "Health" section.

Hi,
I'm fairly new here myself starting to post last summer and also interested in the raw food diet for my 2 old senior persians. My oldest persian at age 16 had a very bad bout of Irritable Bowel syndrome this past July and was hospitalized for one week. I had tried the samples of raw diet with both persians as my other one that is 15y.o. has health probs and was recently diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure.

Ok so I asked questions here and some very helpful people answered my questions however I didn't reallys start the raw food diet until about 3 weeks ago as my cat with CRF got sick and he went down to 5lbs 1oz (from 6 lbs) and I was just seeing he couldn't eat anything without having diarrhea and vomiting so wanted to try the raw food diet as last attempt~

Guess what??? This cat is eating this food like a champ! I mean he chows down on it and is anxious for his next meal following me around and he's starting to put on weight again!!! From his last wt. of 5lbs 1 oz he went to 5 lbs and 8 oz this past week (he's getting sub q fluids one time a week and getting weighed each time he's brought in for this).

I have tried the chicken, lamb and turkey. The chicken is best tolerated by Winston and the lamb is questionable as he's vomited it up twice directly after eating. The lamb seems to have much more fat in it or is more greasy. The turkey was Ok too but really I think I'll stick to chicken for him if possible. My oldest persian is still doing her own thing with regard to wanting to eat Friskies wet food with gravey but she has episodes of vomiting and diarrhea so I want to transition her as well.

good luck~ vaccines.. my cats were vaccinated on a regular basis for many years tho because they are house cats and Winston has a number of health probs my Vet has said he didn't have to have the vaccines or at least some of them.

Oops sorry to go on here ~ welcome and yes please go to the Health section. Linda H and others have been helpful to me there re my raw food questions. You'll see a number of recent posts from me regarding raw food questions.
