LindaH.. ok please tell me a bit more about the slippery elm.. I think I've seen a teabag form of this tho is it in capsule supplement OTC in health food store? And how do I mix it or give it like so much powder to so much water (if that's even appropriate). I have to make an appt. with the Vet re checking out colitis. Winston is very sensitive about having his rear end touched and what I've noticed when he pushes to have a bowel movement it's like he has a huge hemorrhoid coming out or a part of his rectum protruding. I have to tell the Vet tho I have forgotten to as I've really just been watching him recently and have to turn away almost between the visual and the odor.

Dan, thanks for the baking tip ;)

Kira, I have only been giving Alaska the tuna flavored food. Winston could never tolerate it... he's having the same prob he was having when I had to take him off of wet gravey that was all he would eat of the wet food.

My poor widdle man ~ he just doesn't seem happy right now. I wish I knew if he were in gastrointestinal pain or discomfort I think at the very least. I would be if I was pooping like that and had gas.. I just don't know. He hasn't wanted to snuggle since the last time I wrote that he did. He seems to be in pain of some sort. I can't take him to be seen until Friday.

I'm so sorry :( I wish there was something I could do to help. Please know that you are in our prayers. Hugs to you and your Winston, Chunk wants to look just like him someday. :cat:

Thank you Kira! I'm going to pray that the half of jar of winter squash that he gobbled up won't go splat poop all over the place when he next hits the kitty litter box! He seemed to love it so that was good. I also got the pumpkin that is the good one tho seems like if the baby food works he likes that. That made me happy :D Hope he can "stomach" it ;)

We luvz these kitties don't we

Ahm, too much squash can cause diarrhea. I found that out with Wendy -- 2 tablespoons and it's soupy poop.

The slippery elm I get is in bulk powder, but I do know it's in capsules and as a syrup, too. The way I use it is to gently cook 1 tsp in 1/2 c water until thickened and then give 1t 1/2hour before a meal. Another approach is 1tsp of syrup (slippery elm is available in a syrup at health food stores), 3 times a day.

Another possibility is high doses of probiotics -- the 5-20 million range.

A lot depends on WHY this is occuring. If it's allergy, nothing will help until you remove the problem. If it's inflamed guts because of something, then soothing them with slippery elm, pet version of kaopectate, or fasting will help. If it's a bacterial imbalance, then the probiotics. If it's related to the CRF, then the raw meat should help. (I've never had a CRF kitty with diarrhea on raw meat.) If it's stress related to you, fluids, and moving, then try Rescue Remedy.

What was the last thing he ate consistently without poo problems? This is what you need to go back to and stay with it for 2-5 days to let his system adjust.

Kibble was the last thing he ate w/o gooey poo. The thing is before we started the raw food he was having gooey stinky poo w/everything he ate and he wasn't eating his kibble. So when we started the raw food all was good for quite some time. Then he's started to have gooey poops again these last few weeks off and on.

So far since I gave him the winter squash to eat he's not pooped. That was around 5p.m. so nearly 8 hours ago. I didn't give him more than 2 teaspoons worth so hope it's helped... seems to have. Will know when poop time happens.

thanks for all the info Linda ;)

Kira, Winston sayz Chunk's a good looking widdle dude and he's proud of him for being such a Chunkster!

I have never had that problem with Bluie, but with Bear, I had to change her diet to more fiber, more dry food less wet food. The vet also gave me some meds to quiet the gas and loose poo down.. sending prayers and hope things get better for him soon

Boy that Winter squash worked like a charm! I mean no poops and no gas. Winston sure does love it too as he licks up every last little bit. Now I'm going "where da poop?" He is sleeping loads and hardly drinking and/or peeing either. I swear I feel like I'm doing "private duty nursing" on this little dude! He gives me one little look and meow and I completely melt
