Annabella has not been fixed yet. Purcy has been since he was about 4 months old. He keeps trying to mount her because I believe she is in heat. I think she only weighs 3 to 3.5 pounds right now.....Do you think that is a healthy weight to have her spayed? I am afraid of the outcome if I take her in right now. Your thoughts would be very appreciated.

It depend if 3-3.5 is a healthy weight for her.

With Clarissa, she was 3.5 lbs, but that was a healthy weight for her since she's tiny.

With Maggie, 3 lbs was not a healthy weight for her and she had problems coming out of the anesthetic and then the rest of the crap happened. I have no definitive proof, but I don't think she would have gotten the URI and herpes if she had been spayed while she was so emaciated.

Linda, her backbone is so prominate that I think that if she could put on 1 or 1.5 pounds then she would be a good weight.

I hate these people that owned her. I would wait if you think she is thin.

3.5lbs would be fine, for a kitten, in my opinion. But like Linda said, a cat that is in heat, should weigh more than that.

I would wait and keep them separated. I have a feeling that it has to do with dominance as well, but the breeders will have more info for you. Can you give them separate parts of the house at night?

Yes, I can keep them separated at night because Annabella won't let anyone near me. She chases everyone from the bed and has to sleep with one paw on me at night. If I get up to use the bathroom she goes with me.

Poor baby. It's probably been such a long time since she was loved like you're loving her. Again, Krys. Bless you.

Poor sweet baby. She is probably still so scared that she is going to wake up from this wonderful dream she is having. I hate her former owners too.

I don't have very nice feelings towards her former owners. Bless her heart she just laid right down and let me clip the matts right out of her. I know it had to hurt but she laid there and did not move. She did not move a muscle when she had her bath either. And then she felt so free when it was all over with. She plays with the toys and runs like a banshee through the house. But her favorite place to be is right on top of me. And  I kinda like it.

how old is she? her wt is ok, as long as she has no problems, at least the majority agree now it is good to early spay. It is hard on her to be in heat.. good luck.. :paw:

Pat is right. If you do bloodwork prior to her surgery she should be able to be spayed baring no underlying issues. I understand your concern but if you find a vet who is comfortable with early spay and neuter (ie kittens at 2lbs or 8 weeks) then you could get her spayed. Honestly even a vet who doesn't do kittens as a rule should be comfortable as she is well over 6 months of age.

Not spaying her brings about a whole laundry list of problems since she will not be being bred. If she developes Pyometra (uterin infection) she could potentially die or not survive an emergency spay. I would suggest talking to your vet about your concerns and seeing what he thinks about spaying her at her current weight if bloodwork is done previous to surgery.

Krys you are indeed an Angel for taking her in and loving her...she obviously adores you for saving her and helping her! I don't think there is a more rewarding feeling that the love received from a rescue. All they know is to say thank you thank you in every way they possibly can!!!
