Hi, so prev we thought our female was preg. But we discovered she had a false preg unfortunately. Recently she came into heat. From observing the two together during her heat, it seems like he is too small to breed her. This is prob too much detail but when he grabs her neck he can't reach.. Like hes basically trying to breed her back... Any suggestions? We don't want to give up home on getting litters from these two. She is a Torti Point Himi and he is a Blue Lynx Point Persian. Both are registered. We are also new to this. We have owned cats before and all. We also spent a lot of time and money trying to pick the right male and female. She is a little more then a year old. And he is a year old.

I'm so sorry you are having this problem, but I'm not a breeder,
so can't offer advise.
I hope one of our breeders sees this however, and can give you some hints.
Perhaps the female's breeder could help you out with the offer of a more mature male while she is in heat?

Both sound inexperienced. This is a good reason to either get an proven male or a proven female when you first start out. i bred silver and goldens and they seem to be a little 'slow' to mature. I don't want to discourage you, but my first stud took 3 years to breed. My second took 2 and a half to figure it out. My advice is to just be patient. Take this time to learn about pregnancy, birthing ( lots of things can go wrong so best be prepared ahead of time), find a mentor to help you through the rough spots. And there will be some rough spots. I lost most of my 2 first litters when I started out. Had to hand feed the surviving kitten from the second litter for a week. If it hadn't been for my friend (unofficial mentor) I would have lost that kitten too.

These two are just really really young!
It may take them a few more rounds to get it right.
With the boys it takes them a while to really find the 'sweet spot' but once they manage it once or twice they would usually not miss it again. Just let them keep trying and don't get discouraged. It may even take them until they are 2 or 3 years old to get it right... Persians are not easy, and when you get an effective breeding couple HOLD ON to them - mostly the boy.
With the girls it can also take them some time to learn the position, and some of them tilt to the side at the beginning (not really helping the boy). But they also get it right eventually.
As mentioned it's really good if you can get at least one of the pair proven and experienced, indeed in these cases they can really teach the inexperienced one. But that's not always an option... and sometimes you just need to wait and let them try.
Good Luck!!

Just wanted to let everybody know that they finally figured it out. We separated them right after she came out of heat and they've been separate since. I don't know what happened last time, whether it was a false preg or what. But this time there is no doubt. She is due in about two weeks. She is a big round balloon. You can easily feel the babies. And her nipples are all swollen. So I think they did get it done this time. I cant wait to see what the litter looks like. I am hoping all goes well with the birth.

OMG!!! That's such wonderful news!!
I told you they eventually get it right. I am happy they go the trick sooner than later. As long as they try - it eventually works. The problem is if you have a boy that is completely uninterested... luckily you are not in that place.
You HAVE to send us pictures of the litter when it's born!! I am expected to have the first kittens of this year at about the same time... so we can have a kitten picture fest

Congratulations - patience is the key sometimes. Yes, both of you PLEASE post photos! Since I no longer have kittens running around that is how I get my 'kitten fix'. There is nothing cuter than a Persian kitten!

I will make sure to post photos. She looks seriouslyready to pop lol. I can't wait, this will also be my first litter of persians. She is pretty big, like round and full of kittens or so it looks and feels, so I am hoping to get a nice sized litter. But I will be happy with whatever I get as long as they are all healthy. I have to admit, it is a little nerve wrecking. I check on her so many times a day to see if she is in labor. Since we forgot to right down the exact dates they bred :/ and she is huge. Never again will I forgot to write down the dates.

I just looked at this and seriously I know nothing about breeding cats but I figure if there's a will there's a way! Glad to see that "everything" has come to fruition and you're awaiting a "bout to pop" day! Congrats! Looking forward to seeing pictures if you post them in the future! Maria
