Well, I just got back from the vet's because Isabel started to pee on the floor. And she never would do that unless it was VERY serious.

Okay, the results. An ultrasound showed a big stone in her bladder. When the vet tried to extract an urine sample, Isabel extracted a blood sample. (Princess can fight!) So, until I can catch a urine sample (she drips urine, so a sample???), she's on this Royal Canin stuff that supposedly disolves BOTH types of stones. If it doesn't disolve or pass, then it's surgery. Poor Isabel. :(

And of course I got a lecture on raw food from this local vet. I have 10 other cats who don't have this problem. I have had cats with chronic UTI/crystals switch to raw and live without problems for 10+ years. Emily live 19+ years without problems. Rationally I know this, but I feel very guilty, like I did this to Isabel.

Honestly, crystals can also form from subclinical chronic UTI, which fits better with Isabel's history. But tell that to my massive guilt...

I'm so sorry, Linda....
Poor Isabel...I hope the diet helps her quickly..
I hope it doesn't come to surgery.

Hugs,
Joan

Don't feel bad. The vets should feel bad for giving you grief for going out of your way to make a nutritious diet for your cats. Sometimes cats just have special needs and you have to give in and give that rx food. That does not mean you were wrong for doing what you had been doing.

So when my kids were sick I put vicks on them and fed them chicken noodle soup...Doc says that does not help anything...but it helped me.

Isabel has an amazing momma that would do anything for her......you hang on to that.

Thanks guys! I still feel 'guilty', 'potentially guilty', or whatever. Luckily I have a newly remodeled rock....

The good news now is that Isabel will EAT the rx food. She is a bit picky, so I wasn't too sure. ETA: I just looked up Royal Canin SO and it is suppose to dissolve sturvite crystals and prevent calcium/oxalate crystals from forming. I'm not sure how it can do this. I wish I knew for sure which crystal type it was.

Now to get the new antibiotics in her...

OH Linda...I'm so sorry! Poor Isabel! I have no experience with this at all. I just don't have any advice sweetie but you are both in my thought and prayers.

Hubby reported a largish pee-ball, probably from Isabel -- walnut sized. Still peeing on the floor, but she seems brighter.

I WANT TO BE HOME NOW!!!
