Good news, Joan. Keep it up! So proud of you!

Your hubby might have been suffering from secondhand smoke and his lungs may have been disgorging gunk. I never smoked, but my lungs seem sensitive to smoke. I begin to cough even before I can smell the smoke. I am a bit like one of those sniffer dogs! My parents were both smokers. My father died of heart disease at 59 and my mother had many health problems which may or may not have been connected to her smoking.

No Barbara, I think it was some kind of cold/flu.
Remember, he did not even know I was smoking....thought I quit maybe 15 years ago,
exept on camping trips we took twice a year.
I never smoked in the house, never in the vechicals...always outdoors and never when he was
around!!!!!

Good going Joan. I know how hard it is. I think the saying on the quitnet boards is that the 3rd day, 3rd week, 3rd month are the hardest. You will get wicked cravings out of the blue and just obsess over a cig like crazy. Then, it will PASS and you will have conquered another hurdle. They just get further and further apart. But when one comes, it comes like a herd of buffalo. Be strong and hang in there. We are all proud of you!!

Way to go Joan, you keep it up and every day should get easier.

I suspect you guys had that cold going around. Jim now has a sore throat, didn't bother to tell me so I could take precautions. We leave on our cruise in 10 days

Congratulations Joan. I grew up with 2 parents who were heavy smokers and a grandfather who smoked and died of lung cancer , but I have never smoked. Once after I was in an accident I wanted to smoke - guess it was reaction to the accident. I don't have the experience to know what you are going through, but I am proud of you. If you can, take the money you were spending on cigarettes each week and treat yourself to something else.

One thing that keeps me going is that I am insured as a non smoker....imagine getting

One day at a time.... :flower:

Keep it up, 5 Weeks and counting :flower:

FYI: There is a blood test that shows the level of nicotien in your blood. Your insurance can require you to take the test if your status is Non-smoker.

from whyquit.com

If a nicotine user remains 100% nicotine free for just 72 hours they should begin to notice the underlying current of recovery anxieties begin ever so slowly easing off as their brain's neurons begin bathing in nicotine-free and oxygen rich blood serum. You see, the brain's sensitivity adjustments have no choice but to begin bearing fruit. Although our quickly healing body soon becomes 100% nicotine-free and most of the normal symptoms of adjustment quickly reach their peak, it will take 10 days to two weeks before the ongoing process of restoring natural sensitivities reaches the point where you begin to catch whiffs of the flavor of coming home. These are priceless hours and days during which the mind and body are becoming accustomed to functioning without nicotine and other tobacco chemicals.

The early healing is rapid. Deep breathing with mind relaxation, together with a bit of physical activity, can help diminish anxieties. Adjustment of caffeine intake and limiting sugars can also have a calming effect. Acidic fruit juices, like cranberry, may help accelerate extraction of the blood's remaining nicotine and decease the maximum of 72 hours required for the body to completely metabolize and remove all nicotine.

That is only 3 little days...
if a person knew they were to have a blood test
for insurance, they would only have to quit smoking
3 days before, or 4 to be safe
